Greene warns Trump could cancel 2028 election

Greene warns – Marjorie Taylor Greene says she fears President Donald Trump could use the Iran war as a pretext to cancel the 2028 presidential election and extend his hold on power, pointing to Trump’s remarks to Volodymyr Zelensky about elections during wartime.
Marjorie Taylor Greene said she lives with a specific worry heading into 2028: that President Donald Trump could use the Iran war as an excuse to shut down the election cycle and keep power.
Greene. speaking during an interview with right-wing commentator Alex Jones. linked her concern to a moment she described from Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. She said Trump learned that Ukraine had not held elections since the start of the war with Russia. then turned to Zelensky and asked what she described as a telling question about wartime democracy.
Greene recounted Trump’s reaction as, “wait a minute. You mean that if there’s a war going on you can’t have elections?” She said he presented it as a joke. but that she couldn’t fully dismiss the intent. “And he said it jokingly but at the same time. knowing President Trump. I looked at that and I said — I know he said it jokingly. but I don’t know if he’s joking. ” Greene said.
She framed those remarks as more than a one-off thought experiment. Greene said Trump repeats the idea to acclimate the public to the notion of elections being suspended during war. “He constantly says it so that he can normalize the idea and test the support. and test people’s reaction. ” she said. “I think it’s incredibly dangerous and no one should ever accept it.”.
The concern rests on language Trump used in public before. Trump did not use Greene’s exact phrasing. but he told Zelensky in August 2025: “So you say during a war you can’t have elections. Let me just say. three-and-a-half years from now. if we happen to be at war with someone. no more elections…” Greene treated the phrasing as a deliberate signal. not a casual remark.
Greene said she believes the law offers a clear boundary even in wartime. She added, “There cannot be a third term, no. That’s against our law, that’s against the Constitution, there is no third term. And if this country is at war, no — our elections should not be canceled.”
Her warning comes after a break with Trump’s orbit that has left her publicly at odds with the MAGA movement. Greene resigned from Congress in January after a falling out with Trump and the MAGA movement.
This is a developing story, and additional details are expected as it moves.

Wait so Trump can just cancel 2028? That sounds wild like dictatorship stuff.
I saw something about Zelensky and elections during wartime, but isn’t that like a normal diplomatic question? Feels like they’re stretching it. Also 2028 is so far out.
Marjorie Taylor Greene always says scary stuff though, so I don’t know if it’s real or just politics. But if Trump said “no more elections”?? like that quote is basically it. And Ukraine already didn’t have elections, so she’s probably connecting dots that aren’t even the same country? Either way if it’s true, wow.
This is one of those articles where I read the headline and then everyone’s yelling. Like she’s worried about 2028 because of an “Alex Jones interview” and a Zelensky meeting? Trump said during a war you cant have elections… ok but wars end, elections happen. Also she resigned from Congress so what’s her actual role now, just drama? I’m confused.
