GoPro Max 2 Deal Makes 360 Video Tempting Now

GoPro Max – Prime Day is bringing a rare discount to GoPro’s Max 2 360 camera, now 40% off. The deal centers on GoPro’s dual 14mm lenses, “True 8K” 10-bit video, and multiple mounting options—plus a key warning about audio quality.

Some camera deals feel like window shopping. This one doesn’t. On Prime Day, GoPro’s Max 2 360 camera is currently 40 percent off, turning a pricey kind of filmmaking into something you might actually take outside.

The GoPro Max 2 (7/10 WIRED Recommends) is the Prime Day deal drawing the biggest attention. GoPro equips the camera with dual 14-mm lenses (35-mm equivalent), with each lens recording up to a 1/2.3-inch chip. GoPro calls the result “True 8K,” and the Max 2 captures up to 10-bit video. Beyond sheer resolution, the larger sensors are positioned to deliver sharper, clearer footage than other 360 cameras.

That 10-bit option comes with another practical benefit: the ability to record 10-bit color in log for greater flexibility during post-production color grading. If you’re the type who dreads editing log footage. the default color profile is still described as having the natural-looking color rendition that the reviewer says is the best they’ve tested.

Mounting is where a lot of 360 cameras either earn their keep or annoy you. and the Max 2 sticks to the GoPro playbook. Like most GoPros, it offers three mounting options: folding fingers, a tripod hole, and a magnetic system. The point is simple—mounting “just about anywhere” is the expectation. Even swapping lens covers is designed to be quick: twist off the lenses with your fingers and pop on the new ones.

All the typical GoPro modes are part of the package too, including HyperSmooth video stabilization, horizon leveling, and TimeWarp.

The trade-off is audio. The Max 2’s audio quality is described as lackluster, and the suggested workaround is to pair the camera with a Bluetooth mic. The other important caveat comes if low-light video is your deciding factor: the Insta360 X5 is noted as a better bet for low-light performance.

The deal focus was updated in real time. The roundup was updated at 9 am Thursday, June 25, with new deals on the Insta360 Go Ultra and some accessories.

Even with the audio caveat, the pitch is clear: for most people shopping for a 360 camera, this is the one to get—especially at the discounted price.

  1. So does it record in actual 8K or is that like the upscaled thing? Also why is the audio bad, like can’t they fix that? I’d just use my phone if it’s gonna be quiet and tinny.

  2. Wait if low light is worse than the Insta360 X5, then what’s the point of buying this? The article says bigger sensors help but then says audio is lackluster and now low-light too… sounds like it’s good for daylight skating videos only. Still tempting though for the mounts I guess.

  3. Prime Day got me again. I saw “dual 14mm lenses” and assumed that means it’s like normal wide angle, not 360. And the Bluetooth mic workaround makes it seem kinda annoying, like you’ll forget and then the video is useless. But hey, 10-bit log for color grading? I’m barely editing regular stuff so I’ll probably just leave it on default and hope it looks decent.
