Google Calendar finally expands event color choices to 200

Google has expanded Google Calendar’s event color system from 11 presets to up to 200 custom colors. The change is rolling out through Calendar web and mobile apps and the Calendar API, with 24 default colors and an RGB picker for additional choices. It’s star

Running out of event colors in Google Calendar used to feel like a tiny, annoying tax on everyday planning. The kind you only notice when your schedule starts looking like it’s all been sorted into the same shade.

That problem should be smaller now. Google says the previous limit of 11 predefined event colors has been expanded. letting users access up to 200 custom colors for individual events. The update applies across the native Google Calendar web and mobile apps. and it’s also available through the Calendar API.

The change began rolling out yesterday for users on Google’s rapid release domains. A broader rollout for more users is scheduled to begin on June 29, though Google warned the update may take a few weeks to reach everyone.

For most people, the new setup should arrive without extra clicks. Google says it will be enabled by default for all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.

Google is also adding more structure to what users see first. There are now 24 default colors to choose from. But the real shift is what comes after that: users on the web (or via the API) can define additional colors using a full RGB color picker.

Google framed the update as a long-standing request finally being met. With the older 11-color limit. it was “pretty easy to blast through the previous 11 color presets. ” especially for people who use Calendar for both personal and work events. The practical difference now is straightforward: each event can have its own color rather than being forced to share a small set of colors with unrelated appointments—making it easier to scan your day at a glance.

  1. So is this gonna fix the calendar sync issues or is it just more options to pick colors? I swear mine still glitches when I travel.

  2. I saw this and thought it said 200 events, like Google is gonna auto-fill your week with random stuff. But yeah I guess it’s just colors. Still, 11 was enough for me… until my whole schedule was basically gray lol.

  3. “Rolling out yesterday” like it’ll actually hit everyone on the same day. I’ll probably wait until June 29 and then it’ll work for like 2 days and break again. Also why do they need an RGB picker for calendars… seems like a trap for people who customize everything.
