If your calendar has ever turned into a messy patchwork of the same few colors, Google Calendar is finally giving you something better to work with. The service is expanding event coloring options from 11 predefined hues to as many as 200.
The change is aimed squarely at the people who plan hard—those who’ve had to reuse colors for multiple meetings because the palette ran out. On the web, Google Calendar now offers 24 default color options. It also adds a full RGB color picker, letting users choose essentially any hue they want for their events.
Mobile users get a smaller toolset: they can use the 24 default colors. but they don’t have access to the RGB picker. Google’s update still makes a practical distinction between the two platforms. The web tool remains the place for primary scheduling. while the mobile app is used more often for checking what’s next.
This new coloring feature will be turned on by default, but users can customize it. The rollout is happening now, though it could take a couple of weeks to reach everyone.
Google says the expanded options are available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and anyone with a personal Google account.
It’s another step in a broader shift for Google Calendar. In addition to the new coloring options, the platform has also added the ability to schedule personal tasks. It’s also introduced an AI-driven tool that suggests the best time for an event that works for all participants.
