Gnats threaten White House UFC night, Dana White warns

gnats threaten – Dana White says a visit to the Rose Garden exposed a gnat problem that could disrupt UFC’s White House event, as production teams weigh solutions for lighting, camera shots, and broadcast presentation ahead of June 14.
Dana White walked away from a dinner in the Rose Garden with one thought on his mind: the gnats were impossible to ignore.
The UFC president. a longtime supporter of Donald Trump. revealed that the insect problem emerged during preparations for what he called one of the biggest nights in the MMA promotion’s history. Trump is set to host the UFC event at the lawn of his presidential residence next month to celebrate America250 and his 80th birthday. and White says the outdoor conditions on the East Coast may already be complicating the show.
Speaking on the Boardroom podcast. White recalled that Trump had opened the Rose Garden two nights earlier and invited him to dinner there. The swarming insects, White said, turned an ordinary visit into a production headache in real time. “Another problem that I always think about, especially on the East Coast, bugs,” White admitted. He added: “President Trump just opened the Rose Garden two nights ago and he invited me to dinner there. The amount of gnats that were flying around… I’m like ‘Holy sh*t…’”.
Once he was back in motion, White said he immediately raised the issue with his production leadership. “As soon as I got on the plane, I called my head of production and said, ‘Yeah, let me tell you about the gnat situation tonight.’”
For White, the danger isn’t just the insects themselves—it’s what they could do to the broadcast. He tied the concern directly to the technical realities of staging an Octagon event outdoors. mentioning the lighting grid and the power needed to light the fight. He warned that moths. gnats. and “God knows what else” could complicate everything from lighting to camera shots and the overall presentation.
He believes solutions can be built, at least in part. White said air fans could be installed in the event structure to deter the gnats while his team continues searching for a fix. “These are all the little details that we have to think about,” he said. And he didn’t hide how he feels about the bigger question underneath it all: “That’s why I don’t like fighting outside. Ever.”.
Earlier this month, Trump offered fans their first glimpse at what the venue will look like. In the Oval Office. Trump was joined by UFC fighters Alex Pereira. Ilia Topuria. Justin Gaethje and Ciryl Gane as he showed off renderings of the proposed layout. The plan places an Octagon in the colors of the American flag in front of the White House. surrounded by hundreds of spectators.
Trump also said the entire country is invited to the free event on June 14. He estimated 100,000 people are expected to watch on a big screen at The Ellipse—described as the 52-acre park south of the White House fence—and about 5,000 people are expected to be seated on the lawn.
In the fight lineup, Topuria and Gaethje are set to meet in the main event of the evening. Pereira and Gane are also scheduled for bouts earlier in the card.
The only new complication White brought into focus came from a swarming patch of the Rose Garden itself—one that, for now, has his production team scrambling to keep the spectacle from being swallowed by East Coast summer pests.
