The credits didn’t roll quietly for “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.” In the second part of the Season 2 finale, the CBS sitcom paused for a tribute card that felt like it belonged to the cast—because, in a way, it did.
The card read: “In loving memory, Phyllis Gilliam, January 26, 1956 – March 23, 2026.” It was dedicated to the show’s costume supervisor, who had worked on the series throughout the first season and early on during the second.
Gilliam’s last production credit came from “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” where she served as costume supervisor through Season 2, Episode 5—four months before her death. A representative for Gilliam could not be reached for comment.
She was 70.
Her work left a wider mark than just one sitcom. Gilliam was also credited with serving as a wardrobe or costume supervisor for “Home Economics” throughout the three-season run. Her résumé further included stints as a costume supervisor on “Splitting Up Together” on ABC. NBC’s “Great News. ” Paramount+’s “68 Whiskey. ” Marvel’s “Agent Carter. ” and CBS’ police procedural “Numb3rs” from Season 4 through 6.
Her television credits also included John Mulaney’s short-lived Fox sitcom “Mulaney,” Netflix’s “The Upshaws,” TBS’ “Miracle Workers,” ABC’s “Wicked City,” Fox’s “Gang Related,” and TNT’s “Mob City.”
Gilliam’s film work included the 2008 buddy comedy “Role Models,” starring Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott.
She was first credited as a costume supervisor on the David Spade ensemble sitcom “Don’t Shoot Me!” from 2001 to 2003.
The timing of the tribute landed in the same week as major story momentum for the show. “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” wrapped its second season in two back-to-back parts on Thursday, May 21, and the series is set to return for Season 3 this fall.
The connection between those dates and that tribute is the point: for a show that runs on details viewers never think about consciously. the costume team sits at the heart of what makes characters look like they belong. When Gilliam’s name appeared on-screen. it turned those invisible choices into something unmistakably human—briefly stopping the audience in the middle of the routine.
By the time Season 3 arrives, the spotlight will move to the next chapter of the story. But for Gilliam, the memorial card ensured that her final work on “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” and the years behind the scenes across other productions, were not treated as background.
