Rain pushed the No. 3 Georgia vs. No. 6 Texas College World Series game into a weather delay at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, with the first pitch updated to 8:45 p.m. ET as tarps came off and the NCAA monitored conditions.
For a moment, it looked like the College World Series might skate through the day with only brief interruptions. But by late afternoon, rain returned to Charles Schwab Field Omaha—right as the next SEC-vs.-SEC matchup of the day was set to draw a crowd.
No. 3 Georgia and No. 6 Texas were already forced to take batting practice inside earlier in the morning when showers moved through the area. Later, the weather tightened again, and the game between Georgia and Texas began with a weather delay.
The stakes are high in Omaha, and both teams arrived with momentum. Georgia is heading back to the College World Series for the first time since 2008 after winning the Athens Super Regional. and the Bulldogs enter as the highest remaining seed. Texas. coming off a win in the Austin Super Regional. is also returning to the CWS for the first time since 2022.
As conditions shifted, the NCAA and the College World Series issued updates tied directly to what they were seeing on the field.
7:15 p.m.: Texas said on social media that Saturday’s CWS game vs. Georgia would not start at the originally scheduled 8 p.m. ET first pitch because of weather. The NCAA promised further updates at 8 p.m. ET.
7:25 p.m.: Another update came from the NCAA and the College World Series, setting the next check for Saturday’s Georgia-Texas game for 8 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. local time.
7:50 p.m.: The news that followed was sharper than a forecast—the NCAA said the updated first pitch was set for 8:45 p.m. ET in Omaha, suggesting the delay would likely be limited.
7:54 p.m.: Tarps came off at the Chuck—no, not that kind of tarps off—and organizers indicated they would play some baseball soon as the sun began to come back out.
The timing matters because the NCAA’s lightning-delay rules are built to protect players and fans. Once lightning is detected and the game goes into a lightning delay, it is delayed or suspended for 30 minutes. That 30-minute clock resets for every lightning strike within a six-mile radius after the initial strike. which means delays can stretch for hours even after a brief pause.
