General Hospital’s 16,000th Episode Brings Steve Burton Back

General Hospital’s – General Hospital hit its 16,000th episode with a set celebration on June 1, featuring Steve Burton’s return and a new contract role for Dean Geyer as Tristan Roberts. The milestone show premiered April 1, 1963, and the 16,000th episode is scheduled to air July

General Hospital’s set felt different on June 1—not just because the cameras were rolling, but because it was built around one undeniable number: 16,000.

Cast and crew gathered for a cake and a tribute to the daytime drama, which premiered on April 1, 1963. On the show’s official social media sites. the celebration came with a message that sounded like a nod to anyone who’s ever sat through a tough week: “There’s nothing like celebrating a milestone with family. friends. and cake to cure a case of the Mondays. 63 years and 16,000 episodes later, we’re still going strong thanks to all of you!. Thank you so much for watching.”.

The milestone wasn’t just a party. It was also a runway for what viewers can expect next—on screen and off.

Steve Burton, who plays Jason Morgan, was among the familiar faces featured in a new video marking the day. Earlier this year, Burton announced in February that he would be taking a brief break from the role. During a recent episode of his podcast. That’s Awesome. which he co-hosts with Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli). Burton confirmed the timing was close.

“Yes, I am coming back to the show. I start in June, so I’ll be back for sure,” he shared.

Jason’s absence has had a clear last stop. Jason was last seen on March 25, when he was taken into WSB custody. On the podcast, Burton said he wanted the time away so he could focus on his family—Jack, Makena and Brooklyn, along with his wife, Michelle Lundstrom, and their newly blended family.

“I want to take a break,” Burton said. “I want to live life a little bit and go enjoy.”

The milestone video also brought attention back to Finola Hughes, who last appeared as Anna Devane in February. Hughes posed for a group photo between Burton and Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine). Her look included a new, shorter hairstyle.

In the storyline, Anna is in France receiving treatment at a mental health facility after being held captive and drugged by Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) and Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota).

The episode’s celebration came with another key presence: a newcomer stepping into a contract role. Dean Geyer has joined the soap as Tristan Roberts. He began taping on June 1, the same day the show filmed its landmark 16000th episode.

Geyer’s character name carries weight for long-time viewers. Tristan Roberts is named for the late Tristan Rogers, who played Aussie spy Robert Scorpio on and off from 1980 to 2025, and passed away on August 15, 2025.

Dean Geyer, born in South Africa, immigrated to Australia at age 15. He’s known for his work on 9-1-1, Glee and Zoey 102.

Even with the celebration and the casting news, the most immediate question on viewers’ minds is what happens next for Jason—and when they’ll see Burton’s return. The answer is tied to the milestone’s release schedule: the 16,000th episode is scheduled to air on July 13.

For now, June 1 is being remembered as more than a taping day. It’s the moment General Hospital marked its staying power with cake and tributes, while quietly putting the next wave of story—Burton’s comeback and Geyer’s Tristan Roberts—into motion.

  1. So Steve Burton is back like for good or just a quick cameo? Also why do they always announce it like it’s a “case of the Mondays” thing lol

  2. Wait I thought Jason Morgan was gone because of something with WSB custody? Like that’s tied to the real world maybe?? Idk I just skimmed. But if he comes back in July then cool i guess. Do they mean July like this July or just ‘scheduled’ July

  3. Dean Geyer getting a new contract role… I feel like that’s just a fancy way of saying they’ll keep Tristan around. GH always reboots the same storylines anyway. And “16,000th episode” sounds made up like rounding or something. Either way bring Steve back, the show needs Jason, even if I only watch when my aunt is watching.
