Gemini Intelligence demands 12GB RAM, excludes many Android phones

Google says Gemini Intelligence is coming to Android this summer, but the feature will only work on devices that meet strict requirements, including at least 12GB of RAM, flagship-level chips, and support for AI Core plus Gemini Nano v3 or higher—meaning many

Google’s promise of Gemini Intelligence on Android devices is arriving this summer—but the fine print makes it clear this won’t be a universal upgrade.

The company teased Gemini Intelligence during the I/O edition of The Android Show earlier this week. presenting it as one of Android’s biggest moments yet.. The rollout is set to begin this summer.. Still. footnotes on Google’s Gemini Intelligence landing page spell out demanding hardware and software requirements that will limit availability to the most premium phones.

Gemini Intelligence, Google notes, is an umbrella for its most advanced AI features. That includes Gboard’s new voice-to-text “Rambler” feature, an enhanced Chrome auto-fill system that can handle more complicated forms, and Create My Widget.

But to access those capabilities, devices must meet a stack of requirements: at least 12GB of RAM, a “flagship chip,” and support for AI Core as well as Gemini Nano v3 or higher.

That 12GB threshold alone narrows the field fast.. It rules out most older Pixel models. with the main exceptions being the Pixel 7 Pro. Pixel 8 Pro. Pixel 9 series. and Pixel 10 series.. Support for Gemini Nano v3 or higher adds an additional filter—based on a developer list that tracks which devices currently support Nano v3.

Most phones that support Nano v3 were released in 2026, according to that list.. Still. there are notable oddities: the Pixel 10 series and the OPPO Find X9 series appear outside the bulk of that “released in 2026” group.. The end result is that the Pixel 7 Pro. Pixel 8 Pro. and Pixel 9 series are expected to miss out on Gemini Intelligence.

The exclusions don’t stop with Google either. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is flagged as not getting Gemini Intelligence, and a similarly named device, TriFold, is also expected to be left out.

For Android users. the message is straightforward: Gemini Intelligence is coming. but it’s not shaping up as a broad feature rollout.. If your phone doesn’t meet Google’s 12GB RAM requirement and its AI Core plus Gemini Nano v3 or higher support. it won’t qualify—at least in the initial wave this summer.
