With a dominant 139-109 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. the Spurs clinched a spot in the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2017.
Rookie Stephon Castle didn’t treat the moment like a destination.. At Target Center. he was the engine of the clincher. pouring in 32 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 12-of-20 from the floor.. Victor Wembanyama finished with 19 points and three blocks, and De’Aaron Fox powered the offense with 21 points and nine assists.
In the locker room after a 4-2 series win, Castle’s attention moved quickly to what’s next. The Spurs now turn their focus to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Castle acknowledged that the challenge ahead won’t resemble what he just saw in Minnesota.
“We knew we were ahead of schedule probably in December last year,” Castle said on NBA on Prime. “We knew the talent we had in this room.”
He added: “We knew we were ahead of schedule probably in December last year… They’re [OKC] the defending champs. We know it’s gonna be tough to knock them off but I think we’re pretty confident we could do it.”
