For a growing number of Chrome users outside Europe, the “Ask Gemini” button in the top-right corner is becoming a daily habit instead of a novelty.
Google says Gemini in Chrome has landed in Latin America. the Middle East and Africa. extending a rollout that’s now available in nearly every region around the world—except Europe. The feature is built as a personalized browsing assistant that can summarize content, compare information across tabs and more.
The assistant isn’t confined to what’s on the page. Google designed Gemini in Chrome to connect with apps like Calendar, Maps and Gmail, so users can lean on it for day-to-day automation such as creating email drafts or checking location details.
If you’re in one of the new regions, trying it is straightforward: tap the “Ask Gemini” icon at the top right of the screen. That action opens a new Gemini chat sidebar across every open tab. From there, users can also access Google’s in-house image generator, Nano Banana 2.
The integrations are part of what makes the feature feel like a browser upgrade rather than a standalone chatbot. With the app connections, Gemini can be used to add events to Calendar or plan a trip in Maps—tasks that normally require hopping between screens.
Europe is where the expansion hits a wall. Google hasn’t brought Gemini in Chrome to the region so far because of strict GDPR rules. The key issue is that any AI reading browser data needs a highly secure version that keeps user data within the bloc.
Not everyone is giving up, though. Some users have reported Gemini’s availability in a Chrome Canary beta build, suggesting it could arrive in Germany, France and other EU countries sooner than the wider rollout.
