Gardai probe death after headlock incident in Artane

Gardai have launched an investigation after a man’s body was found at a property in north Dublin last night.
The 38-year-old’s body was discovered inside a house in Brookwood Heights in Artane at around 12:30am by Gardai.
Units arrived at the house after receiving reports of a disturbance.
Sources said that the victim and another man were believed to be fighting.
A third man, who is aged in his 60s, intervened and placed the victim into a headlock.
He died after being choked out.
The man, who is in his 60s was arrested by Gardai .
He was known to the victim and the other man.
He has also claimed it was an accident and he didn’t intend to kill the victim.
The victim’s body will remain at the scene until the State Pathologist conducts an examination.
Gardai said the results of a post-mortem will dictate the direction of the investigation.
The man arrested by Gardai is currently being quizzed by detectives.
In a statement, a garda spokesperson said: ” Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in his 30s following an incident at a residential property in Dublin 5, on Saturday 16th May 2026.
“Shortly after 12:30am, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a call at a residence on Brookwood Heights, Artane.
A male in his 30s was treated at the scene and was subsequently pronounced deceased a short time later.
“A man in his 60s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in North Dublin.
“The body of the deceased remains at the residence which is preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The local Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
“A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed, a Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) assigned and an incident room established at Clontarf Garda Station.
