For Samsung fans who have grown used to a simple split between base and Ultra, the Galaxy S27 could feel different—starting with the lineup itself.
A new report from South Korea’s ETNews says Samsung is planning a fourth model for the Galaxy S27 series: a new “Pro” variant. The idea would place this model right below the standard and Ultra variants, in a lineup that the report describes as expanding beyond the structure Samsung used recently.
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series skipped a fourth model. leaving the range without the familiar standard. Plus. and Ultra structure that’s been in place since the Galaxy S20 era. The only exception during that period was the Galaxy S25 series, which included an experimental Galaxy S25 Edge. Earlier rumors had suggested the Galaxy S26 family might launch with a Pro variant. but that did not happen—now. the latest report claims the next-gen Galaxy S series is getting one.
The Galaxy S27 Pro is reportedly expected to come with a 6.47-inch OLED display. Samsung has not used that exact size before in the Galaxy S line, and the report frames it as a size meant to land between models: it would be taller than the compact base model, but still smaller than the Galaxy S26+.
The rumored positioning is also described as following the iPhone Pro example, where one premium model can be smaller than the top-of-the-line option.
Beyond the size. the more tempting promise—at least for people who want “Ultra” capabilities without the biggest package—is that the new Pro model is expected to share most of its specifications with the Ultra. The report also says it would drop pen input support. In practical terms. that means buyers could get high-end Snapdragon performance and improved camera hardware. while the Galaxy S Ultra’s defining S Pen stylus support is expected to be skipped.
That would make the lineup feel more layered than before: extra space for different feature tiers, and an additional buying choice for people deciding how much size and what kind of features they actually need.
Of course, this is still an early leak. Samsung has not confirmed the Galaxy S27 lineup. But if the Galaxy S27 Pro does arrive as described, it would mark a meaningful shift—helping make next year’s annual refresh feel more substantial than just incremental upgrades.
