JonBenét Ramsey’s Father Urges Guthries to Push Police

John Bennett Ramsey, father of murdered JonBenét Ramsey, told Nancy Guthrie’s family to scrutinize investigators closely, press for answers on newly uncovered DNA, and demand advocates as the case remains unsolved.

John Bennett Ramsey didn’t soften his message for the family of Nancy Guthrie. The father of murdered six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey. whose homicide case remains unsolved. used his platform on Wednesday’s “Brian Entin Investigates” to offer advice that sounded less like comfort and more like a command.

Ramsey urged the Guthries—including “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie—to “really scrutinize” what investigators are doing. “Don’t assume the police are doing everything they can do,” he said. “They may be, but don’t assume that. Don’t assume they know what they’re doing. They may, but don’t assume that. And really scrutinize what they’re doing. Ask questions.”.

He then turned to DNA—an issue at the center of the public narrative around missing persons cases—telling the Guthries to grill investigators about the status of the DNA uncovered at the scene. “It’s like they say when you’re in a hospital, you got to have an advocate. Make sure the hospital and the nurses and the doctors are doing everything that can be done for your person.”.

Ramsey also warned against surrendering expectations to agencies simply because they’re police. “Police departments at best are multi-purpose agencies,” he continued. “They handle everything from traffic tickets to speeding tickets to serial murders. You can’t do everything well. And it’s imperative they bring in all the resources they can bring in.”.

Ramsey’s interview with Entin—aired on “Brian Entin Investigates”—comes as the Guthrie case continues without an arrest or named suspect tied to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. Multiple searches have been conducted. and the case has included analyzed DNA and alleged ransom notes. yet the investigation has not produced a resolution.

The situation began on the evening of Jan. 31, when Nancy Guthrie was last seen after family dropped her off at her Tucson, Ariz. home following a dinner and a game night. By late-midday on Feb. 1. she was reported missing after she didn’t show up at a friend’s place to watch a virtual church service. Pima County investigators later shared that they believed Guthrie was taken against her will.

Later developments added sharper edges to the timeline. Guthrie’s security camera. which had been disabled. revealed images of a man in a ski mask. jacket. gloves and a backpack outside her property. FBI Phoenix later described the suspect as “a male, approximately 5’9” – 5’10” tall, with an average build.

Savannah Guthrie, along with her siblings, has made several public pleas for her mother’s safe return. The case has also attracted intense public scrutiny, including scrutiny that has followed the family while answers remain out of reach.

For the record. in February. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said “the Guthrie family — to include all siblings and spouses — has been cleared as possible suspects in this case.” Earlier in May. Nanos shared that he felt investigators were making progress. “Everyday our DNA labs are working with our investigators and they’re coming up with different ideas and different thoughts of how to help them make this DNA work for us. ” he told People at the time. “How can we do more with what we have?. And so that’s why I say it is — I think we’re getting closer.”.

In the middle of that uncertainty, Ramsey’s message lands with force: don’t treat investigation as something that simply happens to you. Treat it like something you have to push, question, and advocate for—especially when the stakes are a family’s unanswered grief, and the case is still unsolved.

  1. I feel bad for both families, but at the same time John Ramsey is like yelling at them? Idk. Also DNA stuff always takes forever like how is it not solved yet??

  2. Wait are they saying the JonBenet case DNA is somehow connected to Nancy Guthrie? Cuz I swear I heard that somewhere, like they compare stuff. But maybe I’m mixing it up. Either way, “scrutinize” police sounds right though.

  3. Don’t assume police are doing everything they can? That’s rich coming from him, considering everyone’s been watching that Ramsey case forever. But I do think families need advocates, and DNA should’ve been the main priority from the start. If they found DNA at the scene why isn’t there an answer by now… unless they didn’t test it right? And then the police “multi-purpose” thing like okay sure, but still, when it’s a missing kid it should be their whole job.
