A family outing at Fun Spot in Fayetteville has a deadline now: the amusement park will permanently close its gates on Aug. 2.

Fun Spot America announced Thursday that its Fayetteville theme park will shut down later this summer, and it’s asking guests to keep showing up through the end. The company says normal daily park operations will run from 10 a.m. to 10 a.m. through that final date.

In the meantime, passes and gift cards won’t be stranded. Fun Spot America says season passes and gift cards remain valid at the Georgia location until the closure on Aug. 2. After that date, the company will continue to honor them at its flagship parks in Orlando and Kissimmee, Florida.

For now, the rest of the picture stays blank. Officials have not confirmed what will happen to the Fayetteville property or the rides after the park permanently shuts down. The company has also not disclosed specific reasons behind what it called a sudden decision to close the park.

Chief Executive Officer John Arie Jr. framed the move as a painful one for the family-owned business. “This was an extremely difficult decision. ” Arie said. adding that the Fayetteville team’s work “poured their hearts into serving our guests and creating a place where families could have fun together.”.

Arie also said the company is “deeply grateful for the dedication of its staff and the support received from the Fayetteville community.”

Management said it is committed to treating employees with respect and providing support resources during the transition.

The closing lands after a long build-up. Fun Spot America opened its first five-acre Florida attraction on Dec. 24, 1997, and has since grown to more than 150 acres across three locations. In Orlando, the flagship park has 33 attractions, including Florida’s only wooden roller coaster, White Lightning. In Kissimmee, the park offers 29 attractions.

That long history is part of what makes the shutdown sting for people in Georgia, especially since Fun Spot America plans to keep its Florida parks open. The company says it will continue normal operations at its Orlando and Kissimmee theme parks.

There’s also a heads-up for visitors who planned group trips. Information about outstanding group events, field trips, and other park reservations in Georgia will be shared with affected guests in the coming weeks.

The only official source for what’s been announced so far is a press release from Fun Spot America Theme Parks, which laid out the closure schedule, pass policies, and included statements from John Arie Jr.
