Flyers’ Martone, Grundstrom, Berglund Head to Worlds

Flyers named – Porter Martone will play for Canada, while Carl Grundstrom and Jack Berglund are set for Sweden at the 2026 IIHF World Championship in Zurich and Fribourg, running May 15–31.
When the 2026 IIHF World Championship opens in Zurich and Fribourg. three Philadelphia Flyers prospects will be among the players representing their countries.. The tournament runs from May 15–31 in Switzerland. and the Flyers announced that Porter Martone will join Team Canada while Carl Grundstrom and Jack Berglund will represent Team Sweden.
Martone earned his spot on Team Canada for the eighth time in his career.. The Peterborough. Ontario native previously represented Canada at two World Junior Championships (2026 and 2025). one World Championship (2025). two World Under-18 Championships (2024 and 2023). one Hlinka Gretzky Cup (2024). and one Under-17 World Hockey Challenge (2023).
This past season. Martone signed his entry-level contract with the Flyers on March 29 after completing his collegiate run at Michigan State University.. As a freshman with the Spartans, he led the team in both goals (25) and points (50).. In nine regular-season games with the Flyers, he totaled 10 points on four goals and six assists.. In the playoffs, he added two goals and three assists across 10 games.
Grundstrom will be one of 14 forwards on Team Sweden’s roster.. The Umeå. Sweden native will also be heading to Worlds for the eighth time. and for the fourth time competing in the World Championship.. In 2024, Grundstrom helped Sweden to a bronze medal finish.. Through four World Championship appearances, he has posted seven points—five goals and two assists—in 23 games.
During the 2025–26 season, Grundstrom played in 47 games and recorded 13 points on nine goals and four assists. He finished with a career-high plus/minus of +7.
For Berglund. the 2026 tournament marks the fourth IIHF event with Sweden and the fifth overall time he has represented his country.. The Karlstad. Sweden native captained Sweden to a 2026 World Junior Championship gold medal. where he tied for the team lead in scoring with 10 points—three goals and seven assists—in seven games.. He also led the tournament with a +9 rating.
Berglund signed a three-year entry level contract with the Flyers in March after completing his first full season in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), Sweden’s top professional league. This year, he posted 12 points on seven goals and five assists for Farjestad BK.
With all three Flyers prospects set for international competition this May, the focus now shifts to how each will carry the momentum from their seasons into Worlds—while also adding another layer of global experience to their already developing careers.
