Trump faces record disapproval on economy and healthcare

Trump record – New national polling shows President Donald Trump hitting record-high disapproval ratings on both healthcare and the economy, with major majorities also saying costs are rising and the economy is worsening. The results pose a direct political challenge heading
When the latest numbers landed. Trump’s standing on two of his most central issues—healthcare and the economy—was already at a breaking point.. New national polling and a CNN analysis found record-high disapproval for the president on both fronts. underscoring how quickly approval has soured as the midterm political season nears.
CNN’s Harry Enten, speaking on the network this week, put the healthcare problem in blunt terms.. “Sixty-five percent disapprove of him on healthcare. ” Enten said. calling it “the highest for any president this century.” He added that it is “a score you don’t want to be winning on. ” placing Trump above previous peaks for Barack Obama and George W.. Bush.
The economic picture is just as harsh.. A CNN poll conducted by SSRS from April 30 to May 4, 2026, among 1,499 U.S.. adults using a probability-based panel. found Trump’s approval on the economy at 30 percent and 70 percent disapproving—an overall net rating of -40.. The survey’s online and telephone methodology carried a margin of error of ±2.8 percentage points. and CNN said the disapproval result set a new high-water mark for him across both terms.
Other major polls echoed the same pattern: approval hovering in the low 30s while disapproval stays firmly higher.. A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted May 8–11 among 1,254 U.S.. adults using Ipsos’s KnowledgePanel. with a margin of error of ±2.8 percentage points. found roughly 30 percent approval against 64 percent disapproval. a net rating of -34.. A YouGov/The Economist poll conducted May 1–4 among 1,573 U.S.. adults with a margin of error of ±3.4 points recorded 34 percent approval and 58 percent disapproval, for a net rating of -24.
The overall mood suggests more than momentary volatility. CNN described approval as clustered in the low 30s across surveys, with negative net ratings consistently on the charts.
That public sentiment shows up in what voters say about daily life.. The CNN/SSRS polling found 77 percent of Americans say Trump’s policies have increased the cost of living in their communities. including a majority of Republicans.. Separately, a YouGov tracker showed a rising share of Americans saying the economy is “getting worse.”
The stakes are intensified by how often voters rank the economy as their top issue. Sustained weakness there carries consequences disproportionate to its polling margin, especially during an electoral stretch where party coalitions are already under strain.
Healthcare brings its own political fuse.. Enten’s remarks connected Trump’s record disapproval to tensions around “MAHA”—or “Make America Healthy Again”—the populist health agenda associated with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F.. Kennedy Jr.. The framework blends anti-establishment messaging, particularly around vaccines, with broader proposals such as removing certain food additives.
But Enten warned that the coalition MAHA once helped build appears to be splintering.. He said Democrats hold a 16-point advantage on vaccine policy. arguing Republicans could be politically exposed if vaccine changes become a central campaign message.. “Democrats crush on this,” Enten said, adding that any administration push could trigger backlash.
Enten also suggested the White House may need to proceed carefully. He said the administration may need to “tiptoe around it unless they want to take the wrath of the American public.”
Even the political positioning around Kennedy Jr. has shifted. Enten said Kennedy’s net favorability has fallen from positive territory (+8) to around -15 overall and as low as -26 among independents, signaling a weakening of what had been seen as a valuable bloc of support.
Pressed by the numbers, the White House is pushing back on how voters interpret them.. Spokesman Kush Desai said Trump was “resoundingly re-elected” because he understood voters’ economic concerns. arguing the administration remains focused on tax cuts. deregulation and energy policy to restore growth.
Desai acknowledged short-term disruption tied to “Operation Epic Fury,” but said officials expect inflation to cool and wages to rise as those policies take hold.
For now, the polls present a clear challenge for the administration: voters appear to be reacting to both affordability and healthcare with growing skepticism, even as the White House insists the current dissatisfaction does not reflect its longer-term agenda heading into the midterms.

Lol people really think healthcare is getting worse? Sounds about right.
Disapproval record on the economy and healthcare… okay but do they ask why gas prices are still high because of like, everything? Also polling be weird. I don’t fully trust CNN doing the math.
So 65% disapprove on healthcare and 70% disapprove on the economy, but approval is 30… that’s basically everybody? Like how is he even running at all. And if this is record high for any president this century, doesn’t that mean Obama was doing better on healthcare somehow??
All these polls are gonna get spun by both sides. Like they say “majorities” think costs are rising and economy is worsening but my cousin says his insurance went down so idk. Also the article says April 30 to May 4 and then Reuters May 8-11 so it’s like we’re just reading the same story twice. If people hate him that much why does he still have supporters? Seems fake to me or at least exaggerated.
