Florida Walmart clerk charged after alleged lottery receipt theft

Florida Walmart – A Walmart Neighborhood Market clerk in DeLand, Florida, was charged with grand theft after investigators say she took a customer’s receipt for a $2,700 winning Powerball ticket and delayed returning it until deputies found the ticket in her vehicle.

Tameka Hall. 40. faces a grand theft felony charge tied to events on June 14. according to a Volusia Sheriff’s Office affidavit obtained by MISRYOUM. The affidavit says Hall was working as a clerk at the Walmart Neighborhood Market gas station when a male customer came in to check his winning lottery ticket.

The court document states that Hall told the customer the winning amount of $2. 700 was too much for the store to provide and handed him a receipt with directions for where to collect his winnings. Investigators say that instead of giving him the winning ticket receipt. Hall folded the ticket and placed it in the left pocket of her uniform vest.

After leaving the store. the customer realized he didn’t have the receipt and returned to get it. the affidavit says. When deputies interviewed Hall at the gas station on June 15. she told investigators she didn’t realize the customer was missing the winning ticket receipt until after the customer left.

The affidavit adds that while Hall was helping another customer at the lottery ticket counter. she put the ticket in her pocket with the intention of giving it to her manager later. Hall told deputies she was unsure why she kept the receipt and was unaware the receipt was needed to claim the winnings. according to the court document.

After her interview, Hall led the sheriff’s deputies to her vehicle, where the ticket was inside. She was arrested and transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where she was released the same day on a $2,500 bond, according to the county’s Division of Corrections.

Walmart confirmed Hall is no longer employed by the company.
