Flood risk in South Florida could linger through weekend

flood risk – Shower and thunderstorm chances are ramping up across South Florida, with the National Weather Service warning that flooding risk could increase Thursday along the east coast metro areas and persist as “significant localized flooding” through the weekend.
For a second straight stretch of unsettled days. South Florida is heading into rain that could feel more like a test than a forecast—especially along the east coast. The National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms are expected across much of the region today. with flooding risk increasing on Thursday for the east coast metro areas.
An “unsettled weather pattern” is expected to bring growing chances of thunderstorms and showers beginning on May 27, according to the NWS website. The forecast calls for a marginal risk of flash flooding across the east coast metro areas on May 28.
The warning grows sharper from there. A threat for “significant localized flooding” is expected to persist through the rest of the weekend.
Today’s rain picture is uneven. The NWS forecasts “isolated to scattered showers” for South Florida on Wednesday, with the heaviest concentration expected in the southwest during the afternoon. Even so, a few showers could still reach the east coast metro areas in the morning.
Rain chances are also relatively modest on paper but not meaningless—especially when storms cluster. The NWS lists a 15% chance of rain in Miami today, a 17% chance in Fort Lauderdale, and a 12% chance in West Palm Beach.
The timing arrives just ahead of Atlantic hurricane season. That season begins on Monday, June 1, and runs through Nov. 30.
The sequence of this forecast matters: showers on Wednesday. a flash-flood signal on May 28. and then the weekend bringing a threat of “significant localized flooding.” As the storm chances stretch across multiple days. residents along the east coast metro areas are likely to feel the risk not as a single event. but as something that can repeatedly disrupt commutes. outdoor plans. and daily routines.

So it’s gonna flood again basically. Love that for us.
15% chance is nothing right? Like it’s basically a non-event lol. But then they say significant localized flooding through the weekend so I’m confused.
Wait is this the hurricane season thing starting Monday or is it already coming? They keep saying thunderstorms but not like an actual storm, so why does it sound like the end of the world. Also if it’s “significant localized flooding” then it’s definitely gonna happen in my area right? smh.
Every year it’s the same forecast, rain today, flash flooding tomorrow, then “significant localized flooding” all weekend. Like okay but where exactly? The 15% Miami number sounds low but the east coast metro areas always get hit first it seems. I’m just staying inside and blaming the drainage system like usual.
