Five U.S. cruise guests arrested after violent Nassau clash

five U.S. – Five American cruise guests were arrested in Nassau on June 8 after a reported fight involving several passengers turned into a violent struggle with police at the station, authorities said.

By the time police tried to take five American cruise guests into custody for a separate altercation at the port, the situation had already escalated—officers say it erupted into a violent struggle inside the station itself.

Authorities in Nassau said they responded on June 8 to reports of a “physical altercation involving several cruise ship passengers.” In that first episode, officers intervened and arrested two men and three women.

But when police attempted to search the travelers at the station. the news release said a “violent struggle” broke out between officers and the group. The release alleged that one female suspect threw a chair through a southern glass door, causing it to shatter. It also said a male suspect then kicked out the remaining glass and attempted to escape before being immediately subdued by officers. Additional police units were requested to help restore order.

Police said the passengers received treatment for minor injuries stemming from the first altercation. At the station. four officers were also hurt. including one officer who sustained “a serious injury to his left shoulder” and was taken to the hospital. Several police uniforms were damaged, as well.

The five travelers are now under investigation in connection with assaulting a police officer, fighting in a public place, resisting arrest, malicious damage and disorderly behavior in a police station. Police did not name the suspects, the cruise ship, or the cruise line they were sailing with.

The incident comes as cruise travel continues under strict scrutiny from regulators and the public health rules that shape how ships operate—yet this episode underscores how quickly a day meant for leisure can turn into a criminal case when tensions flare at port.

For now, the investigation is centered on what led to the initial fight at Nassau and how events unfolded once the arrests were made at the station.
