Ferrari’s Luce goes public with Tesla-class numbers

Ferrari Luce – After years of hints, powertrain teases, and a LoveFrom-designed cabin reveal, Ferrari has now shown the exterior of the Luce EV in Rome—bringing four-motor performance, a 122 kWh battery, and a claimed 329-mile range.

Rome finally got the full reveal. After years of anticipation, Ferrari has unveiled the exterior of its electric supercar, the Luce—Italian for “light”—ending the secrecy that has followed the project from the beginning.

The wait stretches back eight years. In January 2018. at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. former Ferrari chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne first hinted at an EV built around a “prancing horse” to compete in the Tesla era. “If there is an electric supercar to be built, then Ferrari will be the first,” Marchionne said. “People are amazed at what Tesla did with a supercar: I’m not trying to minimize what Elon. did but I think it’s doable by all of us.”.

Ferrari, of course, hasn’t been the first. But it has earned the reputation of taking the slow lane—one drip-fed step after another: an initial model “nickname” of Elettrica. last October’s powertrain reveal. and then. in February. an interior designed with Apple-esque help from LoveFrom. spearheaded by Jony Ive and Marc Newson.

With the Luce exterior shown in Rome, Ferrari completes that staged rollout. The company frames the moment as the most consequential thing Maranello has made in decades.

What’s under the skin is pitched as unmistakably high-end. The Luce uses four motors—one per wheel—with a combined output of over 1,000 horsepower in Boost mode. The rear axle produces 832 hp and 7,750 Nm to the wheels, while the front axle adds 282 hp and 3,400 Nm. Ferrari claims full power arrives in less than a second.

Acceleration figures land like a promise. Zero to 62 mph is delivered in 2.5 seconds, followed by a top speed of 192 mph. Ferrari describes it as a hypercar in a GT disguise—built with five seats, a first for the brand.

The battery is one of the biggest parts of the story. The 122 kWh battery—one of the largest in any production EV—charges at up to 350 kW on an 800-volt system. Ferrari says the battery enables a range of more than 329 miles per charge. All-wheel drive and steering are inspired by the Purosangue SUV.

Even the weight is meant to feel believable. Ferrari has confirmed a curb weight of 4,982 pounds, or 2,260 kg—only around 200 pounds more than the Purosangue, despite what Ferrari calls the “thumping great” battery pack.

Taken together. the Luce’s rollout reads like Ferrari insisting it won’t just build an EV—it will build a familiar kind of drama. with modern architecture in charge: four motors. a large 122 kWh pack. fast 350 kW charging on an 800-volt system. and performance aimed squarely at the category’s most serious expectations.

  1. So they finally showed the outside in Rome but it’s still an EV that can’t compete with Tesla, right? Four motors sounds cool though. I swear Ferrari is just copying what Elon already proved.

  2. “Luce” like light, ok. But 122 kWh battery… doesn’t that mean it’s gonna be heavy and slow? Also 1000 hp boost mode sounds fake like marketing math, like those dyno numbers that never happen on the street.

  3. I don’t get why they’re taking 8 years just to show the exterior. Tesla has been out here with the supercar thing forever. And the Apple/Jony Ive LoveFrom cabin… good for them but I care more about charging than the vibes. If it really does 329 miles then maybe it’ll be worth it, but I’ll believe it when I see real drivers say it.
