FC Cincinnati vs Inter Miami: Evander, Messi Faceoff

Evander, Messi – FC Cincinnati host Inter Miami at TQL Stadium in Matchday 13, with Evander and Lionel Messi both in the spotlight.

FC Cincinnati’s TQL Stadium will be the stage for a high-profile showdown when defending MLS Cup champions Inter Miami arrive for Matchday 13, setting up a rare matchup built around two of MLS’s most talked-about playmakers.

For Cincinnati, the focus quickly turns to Evander, the dynamic Brazilian No.. 10 who has become a focal point in the Orange & Blue’s recent surge.. The team enters the matchup in the Eastern Conference at sixth place. with a record of 16 points on 4 wins. 4 losses. and 4 draws. and after a slow beginning they have now gone unbeaten in six straight games. tallying two wins and four draws with the schedule tightening as a 2026 FIFA World Cup pause approaches.

That improved form has come with goals at the right moments.. Most recently. Cincinnati played Charlotte FC to a 2-2 draw. a game featuring Designated Players Evander and Kévin Denkey scoring in the same match.. It marked their fifth consecutive game with at least two goals. and it also reinforced how their offense has been finding rhythm despite earlier inconsistency.

In that context. Cincinnati’s star-studded measuring stick is also a test of how quickly the club can prove its earlier ambitions.. Back in preseason. FC Cincinnati were widely viewed as legitimate MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield contenders. and a game against the league’s defending champion offers an early snapshot of whether that belief still holds.

Evander’s recent trajectory is central to the storyline. The report highlights a “vintage” goal at Charlotte, following a hat trick at Chicago the week before, showing a player who has been escalating his impact as the season moves toward its late-stage break for the World Cup.

Kévin Denkey, meanwhile, continues to deliver for Cincinnati as he aims to translate preseason expectations into consistent production.. The report describes Denkey as the club-record signing who has team-leading seven goals in his second MLS season after arriving ahead of 2025 from Belgian top-flight club Cercle Brugge.

Defensively, the matchup also matters for USMNT hopes.. Miles Robinson. a two-time MLS All-Star and a former MLS Best XI selection. has returned from injury and is pushing for a spot on the United States roster for the World Cup this summer. a reminder that the stakes in MLS are increasingly tied to international timelines.

Midfield depth and World Cup speculation are part of Cincinnati’s broader spotlight as well.. Pavel Bucha. described as a versatile midfielder. is a surprise call-up for Czechia’s successful UEFA playoff campaign in March. and the report raises a direct question about whether Bucha will be featured at the World Cup.

Another player to watch is Bryan Ramírez, an Ecuadorian winger who has started all 11 games in his debut MLS season. He’s also looking toward a World Cup roster push, tying his day-to-day club role to the international selection process.

On health and readiness, Cincinnati has been through its own stretch. The report notes that after weathering an injury wave, the team is largely back to full strength, giving head coach Pat Noonan more flexibility as the team navigates the final stretch of matches before the World Cup pause.

Inter Miami, entering the same matchup, sits third in the Eastern Conference with 22 points on six wins, two losses, and four draws. The defending champions have recently regained momentum, according to the report, after overpowering a shorthanded Toronto FC side in a 4-2 road victory.

That Toronto performance leaned heavily on two of Inter Miami’s biggest stars: Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul.. Both were reported as being named to Argentina’s preliminary squad for the 2026 World Cup. and the match also featured 1 goal and 2 assists contributions from Messi and De Paul’s involvement as Miami turned the game in its favor.

The report also underscores Messi’s league-leading pace in direct statistical milestones.. It notes that his latest performance made him the fastest player to reach 100 goal contributions in league history. achieving 59 goals and 41 assists across 64 matches. surpassing the previous mark set by Toronto legend Sebastian Giovinco.

Inter Miami’s momentum sets up a potentially meaningful second act in an ongoing playoff memory.. With that confidence. Miami is chasing its seventh road win of the year in a trip to the same opponent it eliminated in the Eastern Conference Semifinals of the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs. when Inter won 4-0.

For Messi, the season-long storyline remains centered on award contention and continued production. The report frames his bid for a third straight Landon Donovan MLS MVP award as “going strong,” pointing to 13 goal contributions in 11 games, including nine goals and four assists.

De Paul’s role is also highlighted as central to Miami’s attack. In Toronto, he opened the scoring with a sensational volley, and the report says he is up to three goals and five assists in league play.

Miami’s international aspirations extend beyond Argentina. Germán Berterame, a Mexican international striker, is seeking a World Cup appearance, and the report notes he has helped his case recently by scoring three goals in Miami’s last six games.

Defensive stability and match fitness remain variables as well. Sergio Reguilón, described as a former Premier League and LaLiga left back, returned from injury and scored his first MLS goal last weekend, with the report asking whether he can stay healthy and build momentum.

Between the posts, there’s also an ongoing storyline tied to Canada’s national team competition. Dayne St. Clair is described as part of a goalkeeper battle each matchday in MLS, competing alongside Orlando’s Maxime Crépeau for the CanMNT starting role at the World Cup.

Tactically, Inter Miami’s recent approach is framed by veteran attacking combinations. Interim coach Guillermo Hoyos has opted for a front three of Messi, Berterame, and Luis Suárez in recent matches, and the report asks whether that veteran trio will remain intact against Cincinnati.

With both teams in form, the market is also reflecting expectations that Miami can leave Cincinnati with points.. The report states that betting markets appear to favor Inter Miami for this road trip. with nearly 50% odds to win and 25% to draw. though it also leaves the door open for Cincinnati to upset the projections.

The factors that could decide the match hinge on control and finishing.. The report suggests that if Inter Miami can limit Evander and manage the midfield. it could punish Cincinnati’s defense—particularly because Cincinnati has conceded multiple goals in four of their last five games.. For Miami. the goal is not just stopping the biggest name. but also keeping the rest of Cincinnati’s attack from getting the same chances Evander and Denkey have been creating.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati’s path to staying competitive runs through turning their recent offensive run into something repeatable.. After steadying their early-season momentum and building an unbeaten streak that has featured at least two goals five matches in a row. FC Cincinnati will be looking to see whether their early-season contender pedigree can withstand the pressure of facing the reigning MLS Cup champions.

  1. I had no idea Cincinnati even had a soccer team honestly. my cousin lives there and never mentioned it once. hope they win though sounds like they been on a good run lately

  2. this Evander guy is from Brazil right so basically Miami brought in all the foreign stars and Cincinnati just out here building something real with guys nobody talks about and thats honestly more impressive to me. like you spend 150 million on Messi and a team from Ohio is keeping up with you, thats embarrassing for Miami. also wasnt Evander at Portland before this or am i thinking of someone else. either way the MLS been slept on for years and people are finally starting to pay attention which is good for the sport overall i think

  3. wait so this is the World Cup or just a regular season game cause the article kept mentioning the World Cup and now im confused about what im even reading
