Mayor Bass weighed in, calling for a “thorough and transparent” investigation. LAPD Chief McDonnell promised a multilevel, transparent examination of the tragedy.

For the family, accountability is the dividing line between grief and action. Greenfield told TMZ that the family will sue if the response isn’t handled “appropriately,” adding, “I wants them to take accountability. I want them to admit what they did was unjustifiable.”

TMZ also spoke to the family directly this week, with the family saying no apology has been issued. Still, the neighbor who called police did send apologies to Marseille.
