Poll shows Google users split in Gemini transition

Google users – A poll of more than 6,000 readers finds the shift to AI across Google’s products since 2023 has left many feeling worse—while nearly as many say it has improved.

For a lot of Android enthusiasts, the Gemini era hasn’t felt like a smooth upgrade. It has felt like a trade—one some people think they got the better end of, and others feel they didn’t.

The split came through in a poll run this week that asked readers how their Google ecosystem experience has changed since 2023. the year Google first introduced the AI that would become Gemini we know now as a chatbot called Bard. Readers were given three choices: their experience has gotten better, gotten worse, or hasn’t changed.

More than 6,000 people responded, and the biggest share said their Google experience has gotten worse over the past few years. About 45% of respondents—roughly the largest block—felt that the direction Google has taken across its popular services hasn’t worked out for them.

But the results didn’t land as a clean rejection. Almost 35% of respondents said the opposite: their Google experience has improved since Bard entered the scene. Just about one in five—around 20%—reported that their experience hasn’t changed since 2023.

That mix is striking, especially given how quickly Google has altered major products and services. Since 2023, Gmail, Android, and Search have all been reworked to prominently feature AI functionality, turning everyday workflows into AI-first experiences. The poll suggests plenty of users are either unaffected by that shift or feel torn enough to describe it as essentially neutral.

By the time you factor in both the “worse” and “improved” camps. the story is hard to miss: Google’s AI push is not just polarizing—it’s dividing the same community that followed its updates for years. When readers were asked whether they want Google to return to basics or lean further into AI. the question landed on a split crowd already arguing with their own experience.

With the dust still settling on the Gemini-era changes, the comments likely won’t be quiet—because the poll already shows a clear lack of consensus on whether Google’s new approach is progress or disruption.

  1. Poll of 6,000 people lol that’s not even real science. I’m sure it’s mostly angry Android people. I feel like it’s improved for me, but I also just ignore most of the AI stuff.

  2. Wait, so they changed Gmail and Search and now half the people say worse? I thought Gemini was just a chatbot, not like… my whole phone. Also I miss when updates were actually updates and not just more prompts.

  3. This whole Gemini thing feels like Google is forcing AI into everything and calling it a “better experience.” Like, I don’t want my Android to talk back to me. But then again my friend says it’s way smarter now so idk… maybe it depends on what account you’re on? Either way it’s annoying how fast they roll it out.
