Conservative Party of Quebec Leader Éric Duhaime will seek a seat in the Chaudière-Appalaches riding of Bellechasse, according to media reports, although his campaign says he could also run in Portneuf or Beauce-Nord. He will announce his decision by the end of the month, party spokesperson Danny Lizotte said on Sunday. A report in La Voix du Sud on Saturday said Duhaime is expected to announce that he intends to run in Bellechasse on Wednesday, at the Bellechasse golf club in St-Damien-de-Buckland. The provincial riding
of Bellechasse includes a vast, mostly rural territory spanning from east of Lévis to the United States border and part of the city of Lévis. The Bellechasse riding has been held by Stéphanie Lachance of the Coalition Avenir Québec since 2018. The article in La Voix du Sud, a French-language weekly, noted that Duhaime said in April that he had cut the list of ridings in which he was considering a run to three: Bellechasse, Portneuf and Beauce-Nord. But recent visits he made to Bellechasse
and meetings with local politicians, businesspeople and Dominique Vien, member of Parliament for Bellechasse—Les Etchemins—Lévis, fed rumours that he would choose Bellechasse, the report said. As leader of the Conservative Party of Quebec, Duhaime ran in 2022 in the Quebec City-area riding of Chauveau, finishing second to incumbent CAQ candidate Sylvain Lévesque. In 2025, he ran in a byelection in the central Quebec riding of Arthabaska and placed second, losing to Parti Québécois candidate Alex Boissonneault. Duhaime first ran for office in 2003, as a
candidate for the Action démocratique du Québec in the Montreal-area riding of Deux-Montagnes. He finished in third place.
