Ecovacs X8 Pro Omni wins sand pickup test

In lab testing of 10 robot vacuums, the Ecovacs X8 Pro Omni earned the top average score for sand pickup on both hardwood and carpet. During Memorial Day weekend sales, it’s marked $67 off for $599, with a Walmart listing showing it as a Flash Deal that may no

For days, the test results kept pointing in the same direction: when it came to dragging sand off real surfaces, the Ecovacs X8 Pro Omni didn’t just do well—it led the pack.

ZDNET tested 10 robot vacuums in its lab, and the Ecovacs X8 Pro Omni came out on top for sand pickup performance on both hardwood flooring and carpet. Right now, it’s $67 off during Memorial Day weekend sales, bringing the Lab Award-favorite to $599.

The comparison wasn’t close in the numbers. Across three testing categories—hardwood floor. low-pile carpet. and mid-pile carpet—the Ecovacs Deboot X8 Pro Omni picked up an average of 60.28% of sand. That average was higher than the other robot vacuums in the lab group. including models from brands like Shark. Roborock. Dreame. and others.

It’s not only what it grabs that stood out. The Ecovacs Deboot X8 Pro Omni also includes a self-cleaning mop roller. plus both a clean-water tank and a dirty-water tank inside the unit. The robot is designed to vacuum and mop simultaneously. with dust and debris entering the vacuum nozzle—located in front of the mop.

In obstacle-avoidance testing, it also performed well. In the lab, the Ecovacs robot was able to avoid a sock, a cat toy, and a lamp cord.

If suction and mopping both matter in your home, that combination is why the Ecovacs X8 Pro Omni is recommended—especially at this price. ZDNET’s deal-rating system puts this 10% off offer at a 2/5 deal, but because it’s a Lab Award winner and is rarely seen on sale, it received a 3/5 rating.

The timing matters too. The deal is listed on Walmart’s website as a Flash Deal, which means it won’t last long. If you want the $67 off, ZDNET recommends grabbing it ASAP.

Behind the testing and the deal badge system. ZDNET says it uses a percentage-off-based savings classification layered with a sliding-scale approach based on the team’s expertise and factors like frequency. brand or product recognition. and more. The goal. the outlet says. is to help readers interpret the deal ratings quickly—using editor-issued badges affixed to most deal content.

How I rate this deal: ZDNET says the offer should be rated 2/5 under its system, but the sale price and its Lab Award status pushed it to a 3/5.

  1. Sand tests?? So it’s basically a beach vacuum lol. If it can do that, it should handle cat litter too right?

  2. Not gonna lie, $599 minus $67 is still kinda expensive for a robot. Also “Flash Deal for no days”?? Walmart website is always weird with that stuff.

  3. Wait it won because it picked up 60% of sand? That sounds low to me like why not 90%. Plus if it avoids a lamp cord but not my real problems… I’ll believe it when I see it.

  4. I saw this on Facebook and everyone’s like “lab award favorite” but my old Roomba never lasted long. The self-cleaning mop roller sounds great though, I’m just scared it’ll get stuck under furniture with sand everywhere.
