New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani responded to an online petition calling for his ban at this year’s 9/11 ceremony, which has garnered more than 13,000 signatures so far.
A cleaning train caught fire in a lower Manhattan subway station early Tuesday morning, injuring 14, officials say.
The blaze broke out just after 2 a.m. in Astor Place station, the fire department said, with over 140 emergency responders at the scene. Train delays before the morning commute rush are expected.

Fire breaks out at Astor Place Tuesday
A vacuum train was reported to be on fire early Tuesday morning, injuring both Metropolitan Transit Authority workers and firefighters, the FDNY said.
Of the 14 injured, eight were MTA workers, and six were firefighters. Thirteen of the victims were treated at hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries, the agency said, while another refused medical transport.
The fire was under control at around 5:30 a.m.
Train delays after fire
The 4, 5, and 6 train are all running with severe delays in both directions, the MTA said Tuesday morning. Despite delays, service has resumed at regular stops in all stations for both directions.
