The first thing that jumps out about The Catch is the cast list—now it’s getting even bigger.
Druski, a 31-year-old comedian, is joining Emma Stone and Chris Pine in the upcoming film directed by Dave McCary. Stone and McCary are married, adding another layer of connection behind the scenes as the rom-com moves toward production.
The project is being described as “Bull Durham meets Notting Hill,” with Stone playing the most hated woman in baseball. Druski is set to play the character’s security guard, while Ashley Padilla will take on the role of Stone’s character’s sister.
Production is scheduled to begin next month in New York, and the film is expected to hit theaters on May 21, 2027.
The script has also been shaped by several writers along the way. Hacks co-creator Jen Statsky and Adam Ruins Everything writer Travis Helwig wrote the most recent version. That latest draft follows earlier work by Patrick Kang and Michael Levin, who originally penned the screenplay.
Before the movie’s New York start, Stone and McCary were recently in the spotlight at the 2026 Producers Guild Awards held at Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles earlier in the month. They’ve been together for six years.
McCary previously worked as a writer and segment director on Saturday Night Live. before making his directorial debut in 2017 with Brigsby Bear. Chris Pine was attached to the project back in February. and he’s not exactly new to the rom-com space—his breakout as a romantic lead came in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. He’s also set to appear in the upcoming third movie of that franchise.
