Driver Arrested After High-Speed Beltway Chase Turns Into Fire

high-speed Beltway – Virginia State Police said a driver was arrested Sunday after a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 495 and 395 in Fairfax County ended with a vehicle stop maneuver, a brief foot chase, and a fire that burned two vehicles.
Around 12:57 a.m. Sunday, Virginia State Police say a trooper spotted a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the westbound lanes of Interstate 495 near Telegraph Road in Fairfax County.
The driver refused to stop, and the pursuit carried on through the Mixing Bowl and onto Interstate 395 northbound. The vehicle exited at Edsall Road, and police say the chase continued through residential roads and into an apartment complex parking lot.
In the parking lot, Virginia State Police said a trooper used a maneuver to stop the vehicle. The driver got out while the vehicle was still in drive and tried to run away. Police then reported a short foot chase before the driver was arrested.
After the stop, police said the vehicle struck a parked vehicle and caught fire, burning both vehicles. The incident remains under investigation.
As the route shifted from major highways to neighborhood streets and then into an apartment complex parking lot. the sequence left little room for error—especially once the vehicle was still in drive and the driver attempted to flee on foot. Police say the aftermath was immediate and visible: two vehicles burned, with the cause and exact circumstances still being investigated.
