Dodgers’ perfect Duran pitch leaves Red Sox stuck

Dodgers perfect – With the Boston Red Sox sliding in last place in the AL East, Jarren Duran’s value stands out—fast, productive, and healthy—while the Dodgers appear uniquely positioned to swing a deal that could change Boston’s power profile. The same season that has exposed

The calendar is tipping toward June, and the Boston Red Sox are still living in the wrong end of the American League East.

After reaching the American League playoffs a year ago and having a blueprint for a dominant pitching staff. Boston has not looked like a postseason team this year. They sit in last place in the AL East. struggling to put runs on the board and showing a lack of power that has been hard to ignore. On Saturday, Boston finally got something to celebrate: a rare easy 9-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians. But even that improvement nudged the Red Sox only to a 24-33 record. At Fenway Park, they are 9-19.

The troubles have come with a string of setbacks that have tightened the margin for error. Alex Cora was fired earlier in the year. Ace pitcher Garrett Crochet has been sidelined with a dead arm since late April. And Roman Anthony, a young phenom, has been out due to a wrist injury.

What makes this season sting even more is how much Boston has failed to change course before it got here. They did not enhance the team in the offseason. They were unable to hold on to team leader and third baseman Alex Bregman. They failed to reel in former New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso—who signed with the Baltimore Orioles. the last-place finisher in the American League East a year ago. They also did not make a serious bid for slugger Kyle Schwarber. despite his breakout half-season with the Red Sox in 2021 and his status as a fan favorite.

From the standpoint of what comes next. the idea that the Red Sox will rebound over the last 100-plus games is described as unrealistic. It is not framed as a call to tear the team down. Still. a trade involving Jarren Duran is presented as the one move that fits what Boston needs—and what teams around the league can’t ignore about his game.

Duran should have superb value on the trade front, with multiple traits that travel well in any contender’s lineup. He is one of the fastest outfielders in either league and one of the most explosive base runners in baseball. If Duran hits a ground single to the outfield. the threat is that he can turn it into a hustle double. He is also an elite base stealer. known for getting an excellent jump on most pitchers and for doing a standout job of avoiding the tag.

His season started slowly. but he has been hot in recent weeks and has been able to hit the ball out of the park with some frequency. In the victory over the Guardians. Duran hit his ninth home run of the season—a 3-run shot in the ninth inning. He has eight home runs in May. His current slash line is .214/.278/.383 with 32 runs batted in and 10 stolen bases. He has not been caught once. He was also named Most Valuable Player in the 2024 All-Star Game after hitting the game-winning home run for the American League.

For Boston, the key question is where Duran’s skills land best—and the answer in this scenario is the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers are framed as the best fit for him. The New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs could both use Duran as a left fielder. but the chance of the Red Sox sending one of their most exciting players to their archrivals in the AL East is described as unrealistic. The Cubs could also use Duran’s all-around ability in left field. but the deal would be difficult because the Cubs do not appear to have the kind of attractive talent to complete the trade. The Cubs have top minor league prospects they could offer. but the idea is that a player with Duran’s resume needs to be traded for a Major League headliner.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, have the talent to make a solid offer. They are the two-time defending World Series champions and are favored to win a third consecutive title, and the argument is that Duran would enhance their chances.

That matters because, at Fenway Park, the Red Sox are also described as needing a home run slugger. If they were to trade Duran, Teoscar Hernandez is presented as the player who fits the Dodgers side of that equation—and the Red Sox side of the need.

Hernandez has recently strained a hamstring, but the injury is Grade 1. He is expected to return to the lineup in the middle of June. He is a former Toronto Blue Jays player. and Boston made a bid for him before he signed with the Dodgers prior to the 2024 season. When Hernandez was with the Blue Jays. he punished the Red Sox often. with games at Fenway Park especially dangerous for Boston.

Across each of the last five seasons, Hernandez has hit between 25 and 33 home runs. The projection tied to a possible trade is that he would bring a consistent long-ball threat to the Red Sox lineup for the remainder of the season.

If the Red Sox decide to move Duran, the recommended path is to send him to the Dodgers and acquire a key slugger like Hernandez. The goal is power—something Boston has been missing all year—along with the simple, urgent need to make themselves tougher to beat for the stretch ahead.

  1. How are they last again already? I swear Boston always starts strong then just falls apart. Also Cora getting fired feels like it happened forever ago

  2. Wait so Duran “perfect” pitch?? Like he pitched a perfect game and it directly made the Sox lose power or whatever? Kinda confusing. Either way I guess the Dodgers are gonna swoop in and save them by trade and Boston won’t learn anything

  3. Seems like they blame everything on injuries but like… they also didn’t sign anyone? I saw Bregman and Alonso and I was like ok so they just let the whole lineup walk. And dead arm since late April? That’s basically the season right there. Also doesn’t Schwarber play for Philly now or am I mixing teams up
