Despite storms and heat, Pittsburgh lights 250th fireworks
Pittsburgh 4th – Downtown Pittsburgh’s skies lit up Saturday night as a major fireworks display marked the nation’s 250th anniversary, even after late scheduling, heat and humidity, and thunderstorms forced many Independence Day events off the main waterfront.
Saturday evening, the skyline of downtown Pittsburgh finally caught fire with color — even as the weather refused to cooperate.
Thousands of viewers packed around the city as one of the largest fireworks displays in Pittsburgh’s history launched into the sky to mark the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding. Tens of thousands of colorful explosives were fired from barges positioned on Pittsburgh’s three rivers. along with fireworks launched from the rooftop of the Wyndham Grand Hotel.
The show didn’t start when planned. Fireworks began at 10 p.m., a half-hour later than scheduled.
Heat and humidity stayed heavy through the day, and intermittent thunderstorms rolled through as the city prepared for Independence Day. For many people, the biggest shift came not from the fireworks themselves, but from what was canceled. Much of the Independence Day programming scheduled for Point State Park and the North Shore was scrapped because of the weather.
With the main waterfront plans falling away, crowds reshaped their evening. Hundreds gathered at places like Acrisure Stadium to keep dry and watch on large screens as two other red-white-and-blue nations — France and Paraguay — faced off in the FIFA World Cup.
By the time the fireworks finally began at 10 p.m., the city’s message was still the same: celebrate through the storm, even if the start has to wait.

Finally fireworksss. About time.
Weather ruined a bunch of stuff but they still lit up the sky, so I guess that’s a win? Also France vs Paraguay was on? Why was that even part of my feed lol.
They delayed it 30 minutes like that’s no big deal but then thunderstorms were rolling in?? I’m just confused how they launch tens of thousands of explosives during storms… seems kinda sketchy, but people were cheering anyway.
Pittsburgh really said celebrate through the storm like it’s a slogan. I didn’t even know it was the 250th anniversary thing, thought it was just regular 4th stuff. The crowds going to Acrisure Stadium makes sense though, stadium sound system beats point park in my opinion. Also the Wyndham rooftop fireworks sounds fancy, like a hotel got their own section of the sky.
