Demi Moore debuts “De-Marilyn bob” as Cannes winds down

Demi Moore shifted from waist-length hair at Cannes to a shoulder-length “De-Marilyn bob” for the “La Bola Negra” premiere Thursday, May 21, signaling another high-profile reinvention while she serves as a jury member.

For a day at the Cannes Film Festival, Demi Moore seemed to be moving in her familiar lane—then, overnight, she stepped onto the red carpet with a completely different silhouette.

The “Substance” actress, 63, attended a May 20 screening of “The Man I Love” with her signature waist-length hair. The next day, Thursday, May 21, as the festival winds down on the French Riviera, she arrived for the “La Bola Negra” premiere without her long tresses.

Moore’s hairstylist, Dimitris Giannetos, shared what he created: a shoulder-length style with a deep side-part and large-barrel, voluminous curls, which he described in an Instagram post as a “De-Marilyn bob.”

That hair shift lands while Moore is also serving as one of this year’s jury members—at Cannes, a role that comes with its own kind of spotlight. The festival is widely known as a premier destination for global films to debut, but it also functions as an unofficial fashion showcase for major stars.

The “Cannes-style” bob Giannetos delivered appears softer than the more blunt version Moore debuted during Milan Fashion Week in February, also courtesy of Giannetos. The contrast suggests a deliberate move away from the earlier sharper cut—while still keeping the same reinvention energy.

Moore’s change doesn’t come out of nowhere. She’s previously cycled through major looks, including rocking a signature ’90s pixie cut when she performed opposite Patrick Swayze in “Ghost.” Years later, she sported a dramatic buzz cut for 1997’s “G.I. Jane.”

In recent months, she has also appeared to rely on extensions to build longer hairstyles, according to the report that her longer looks may have been achieved with additions rather than a single unbroken length.

Moore’s willingness to reset her appearance—at a time when Cannes is already heavy with public-facing moments—fits the broader pattern of how she shows up: new look. immediate visibility. and no pause between transformations. And as the “La Bola Negra” premiere drew attention to the fresh “De-Marilyn bob. ” her presence as a jury member kept the spotlight trained not just on style. but on the festival stage she’s helping shape as it closes out.
