Deion Sanders has spent much of 2025 fighting an enemy that he didn’t see coming. but the Colorado head coach says he’s leaving that fight behind him now. In an appearance on Good Morning America. the Pro Football Hall of Famer told viewers he is “fully back” heading into the 2026 season. with both his health and his confidence restored.
Sanders, 58, said the timing of his cancer diagnosis made last year feel especially uncertain. “Last year at this time I was fighting cancer, didn’t know which way it was going to go,” he said. He then added, “I’m fully back now. Last year at this time, it wasn’t a good look.”
He credited early detection for his successful treatment. Doctors found the bladder cancer while seeing him for an unrelated health problem that led to amputating two of his toes. “We fought the battle and we won the battle fighting cancer,” Sanders said. “I’m cancer free. I’m good. Great doctors in Colorado that have brought me through. God has brought me through. I’m thankful I’m healthy.”.
Sanders also addressed what he described as the uncomfortable realities of bladder cancer. saying he isn’t avoiding the topic even when it brings embarrassment. “Bladder cancer can cause embarrassing issues,” he said, before turning to a vivid example. “You’re peeing in the bed. I remember going to a speaking engagement and the first thing I do is grab my crotch because I’m like. ‘Oh. my god. I hope I didn’t pee myself because I didn’t bring a change of clothes. ’” Sanders said.
Now, with treatment behind him, Sanders said his focus has shifted back to football and preparing Colorado for the work of the next season. “I’m ready to go coach my butt off this season,” he said. “I’m having a good time.”
