Hussey was appointed in September 2022 after numerous coaching roles and a decorated playing career. He balanced the new role in Cricket Victoria’s administration with coaching Melbourne Stars before stepping away from that role in early 2023. As a player, Hussey made 108 international appearances and finished his 192-match first-class career with a batting average of 52.50. Hussey, coach Chris Rogers and general manager Graham Manou established the foundations for a promising period of Victorian Cricket. Victoria has reached four domestic finals during Hussey’s tenure.
Since 2021, the Vics have had only two contracted players arrive from interstate: the returning Peter Siddle and one-day hit man Josh Brown. The program has prioritised homegrown talent, with Ollie Peake, Todd Murphy, Campbell Kellaway and Fergus O’Neill among those rising through the ranks Manou said Hussey’s impact in the role was “immeasurable”. “David’s influence on the organisation and the broader Victorian cricket community is immeasurable,” Manou said. “Through his passion for the game, commitment to excellence and investment in people, David has helped
strengthen the foundations of our male high-performance program while leaving a lasting legacy across Victorian cricket.” Hussey is poised to continue internally at Cricket Victoria in what the organisation described as “an exciting new global venture”.

So he steps down and now the Vics are magically fixed? Kinda doubt it.
Wait I thought he was the guy coaching Melbourne Stars too. If he’s leaving like that, are the players just gonna get shuffled again? Seems like a lot of finals for all that “immeasurable” stuff though.
Cricket stuff is confusing. Isn’t David Hussey American or something? Also “global venture” sounds like they’re just moving headquarters or idk hiring another Aussie boss lol.
Four domestic finals during his tenure sounds good but I don’t see why he’s stepping away right when it’s going well. Maybe it’s politics with Rogers/Manou? And they only brought in Siddle and Josh Brown from interstate since 2021 which feels like a strategy, but I’m not sure it’ll work without him.
