2026 has been an interesting year for Crunchyroll users. First, the Crunchyroll shop changed significantly, becoming accessible only to paid users and removing some physical merchandise. Then, the anime streaming giant became more accessible to Prime Video users. But later this year, Crunchyroll will implement another change that will affect millions of users.
Crunchyroll is a streaming service that hosts many major anime titles, including Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Spy x Family, and Attack on Titan, to name a few. Founded in 2006, the streaming platform has gained over 15 million subscribers, offers over 2,000 anime titles, and is accessible on mobile apps, PCs, Smart TVs, and consoles. Unfortunately, not every country has access to this streaming platform because of licensing agreements; for example, Japan can watch its shows on other platforms like Netflix. But by October 2026, accessing Crunchyroll will become difficult for a specific set of users.
According to Comicbook.com, Crunchyroll has emailed users to say it will shut down the Crunchyroll app for the Nintendo Switch. The streaming platform did not share a reason, but informed users that it will no longer be available by October 30, 2026, at 9:00 AM PT, and reminded users that they can still watch their favorite anime on the website and other supported devices. The Crunchyroll app was made available on the Nintendo Switch in 2022, allowing users to watch their shows whether the console is docked or in handheld mode, and offering offline viewing for paid subscribers.

Which Anime on Crunchyroll Have Been Renewed?

Crunchyroll houses many anime titles, and some of its huge and latest titles have been renewed for another season. The first that comes to mind is Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, a fantasy anime that first aired back in 2023, released its second season in January 2026, and has confirmed its third season, scheduled for release in October 2027, and has teased the story arc it will be adapting: The Golden Land Arc. Another anime renewed for a new season is Witch Hat Atelier, a new series that debuted in April 2026, and a second season has been greenlit. After months of anticipation and speculation, Sony, Crunchyroll’s parent company, has confirmed that Solo Leveling will return after airing its second season in 2025, but as a film adaptation titled Solo Leveling — Beyond the System — The Movie. A release date has yet to be officially announced, and it will likely be available to stream on Crunchyroll after its theatrical run.
