NEW YORK — In the 10th inning, Pete Crow-Armstrong made the moment count. After a long night with the Mets clinging to a thin margin, Crow-Armstrong laced an RBI double that turned the Cubs’ pressure into a 4-3 victory Thursday night and a sweep of the four-game series.

Chicago didn’t just win the finale. It dominated the matchup. The Cubs went 7-0 against New York, outscoring the Mets 51-24 across the series.

For the Mets, the sweep came with another brutal number attached to it: their sixth straight loss. The defeat left them at 13 games under .500, the furthest they’ve been below the mark since 2023.

Crow-Armstrong’s tiebreaking hit came off Brooks Raley (2-3), who surrendered the key run in the extra inning. Before that, the game’s scoring had already carried a sense of fragility—particularly in the sixth. Michael Conforto. Alex Bregman and Ian Happ delivered RBI hits then. but Chicago’s runs were unearned. aided by a pair of errors.

The Cubs’ final eight runs of the series were also unearned, underscoring how often the Mets’ defense and execution failed to hold up when Chicago pressed.

On the mound, Jacob Webb (2-2) worked around a walk in the ninth, and Trent Thornton retired all three batters he faced in the 10th for his second career save.

Dansby Swanson, who had 15 RBIs in the first three games to tie the Cubs’ franchise record for a series of any length, went 0 for 4 in the finale.

For New York, Eric Wagaman and Jared Young hit homers. Freddy Peralta, the Mets’ starter, allowed three runs, all unearned, and struck out five in 5 2/3 innings.

Matthew Boyd took the ball for Chicago for the first time since injuring his left knee playing with his children on May 6. He allowed eight baserunners—four hits and four walks—but struck out four in 4 2/3 scoreless innings.

The sequence of events left the Mets with no answers to lean on as the standings tightened. They were chasing stability, and instead got swept again.

Up next, Chicago will send RHP Colin Rea (5-5, 4.99 ERA) to the mound Friday at Milwaukee against RHP Jacob Misiorowski (8-3, 1.45 ERA). New York will recall rookie RHP Zach Thornton (0-1, 8.31 ERA) from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday to face Phillies RHP Zack Wheeler (7-1, 2.11 ERA).

  1. I swear every time I check the Mets they’re losing by like one run. Also how is it a sweep when it was only 4 games?? feels like 10 lol. Congrats to the Cubs though I guess.

  2. Brooks Raley gave up the key run in the 10th… so that’s basically on him right? Mets should’ve just not let that happen. And unearned runs or whatever, still counts on the scoreboard so idk.

  3. Crow-Armstrong in the 10th like that is wild. I saw something about the Cubs going 7-0 against the Mets and I’m like okay so Mets just gave up after game 1? But then it says errors and unearned runs… so was it actually the Mets being bad or just the Cubs getting lucky? either way 13 games under .500 is brutal. Also why is Freddy Peralta still pitching like that, did he even strike out anybody? Seems like he always lets the other team back in.
