The Dallas Cowboys are shoring up their offensive line depth ahead of the 2026 NFL season.
The Cowboys are acquiring offensive tackle Broderick Jones in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to multiple reports. The Steelers will receive third- and sixth-round picks for Jones while the Cowboys will also acquire a fourth-round pick along with the veteran.
The Steelers selected Jones in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Georgia product played in 45 games (38) starts across his three seasons in Pittsburgh, logging action at both right and left tackle, but playing the latter position exclusively in 2025.
Jones (6-5, 311 pounds) played a career-low 11 games during the 2025 season because of a neck injury. He surrendered six sacks and committed one penalty across 632 offensive snaps and graded as Pro Football Focus’ 66th-best offensive tackle among 84 qualifiers.
Despite his struggles last season, Jones will provide the Cowboys with an experienced tackle option behind Tyler Guyton and Terence Steele. It isn’t clear whether Jones will immediately serve as Dallas’ swing tackle or whether the 25-year-old will have to stave off competition from fourth-round rookie Drew Shelton or other members of the Cowboys’ tackle room.
Meanwhile, the Steelers trading Broderick Jones will clear the way for first-round rookie Max Iheanachor to eventually emerge as the team’s starting right tackle while Dylan Cook fights to be the team’s long-term swing tackle behind Iheanachor and Troy Fautanu.

Jones is in the final year of his rookie contract with the Steelers. Below are the full details of that pact, per Spotrac.com.

- Total value: $16.6 million
- Average annual value (AAV): $4.15 million
- Guaranteed money: $16.6 million
Jones also had a fifth-year option attached to his contract worth just under $19.1 million. The Steelers declined that option, however, so Jones will be a free agent following the season.
