Cory Mills Faces House Ethics Probe as Trump Backs

Florida Rep. Cory Mills says he expects to be exonerated in a House Ethics investigation, while President Trump backs his re-election bid.

A Florida congressman at the center of mounting scandal headlines is pushing back hard against what he calls a politically motivated ethics fight, betting his political future on one core belief: the House Ethics process will be fair and he’ll be cleared.

U.S.. Rep.. Cory Mills. a Republican. said he expects to be exonerated in an ongoing House Ethics investigation and framed the outcome as something voters should ultimately decide at the ballot box.. He pictured a worst-case scenario that. in his telling. would simply return him to civilian life in New Smyrna. spending time with his children. while insisting the public’s judgment is part of the job.. Mills also pointed to President Donald Trump’s endorsement. calling it a sign the White House sees him as fit to serve.

Trump’s endorsement arrived after a string of personal controversies that. Mills said. shifted him from being viewed as a potential U.S.. Senate contender to becoming the target of multiple censure efforts in the House.. Over the course of this Congress, Mills has faced four separate censure attempts, including one led by a Republican colleague.. He also said he remains confident he can win re-election. especially because he described himself as the only endorsed candidate in his race.

While the ethics case is expected to conclude soon. the investigation has focused on allegations that Mills profited from defense contracts after his election to Congress.. The claims were brought by former GOP primary opponent Michael Johnson.. Mills has not treated the scrutiny as a sign of wrongdoing. describing his goal as cooperating with the committee while insisting the process stay within proper boundaries.

Mills’ concern. he said. is not the existence of ethics review itself. but whether investigators could “step outside” the limits of constitutional authority.. He said he has heard suggestions that could raise concerns about an abuse of power. and he said he intends to look into those issues if they arise.. At the same time. he declined to discuss the specific allegations at issue. saying he does not want to amplify rumors before all facts are established.

He also emphasized a distinction he says people are blurring: he argues that the ethics investigation has been inaccurately characterized as involving sexual misconduct.. Mills said the House Ethics Committee recently included him in a list of “sexual misconduct” investigations it conducted. but he insisted he has not faced allegations of sexual misconduct.

Mills pointed to other resigned lawmakers—former U.S.. Reps.. Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales—who, he said, acknowledged issues tied to sexual misconduct before their departures this year.. In Mills’ framing, the situations are not comparable because he says his case is not rooted in sexual misconduct accusations.

He also argued that some of the most explosive claims circulating in media have different characteristics and legal outcomes.. In February 2025, Sarah Raviani—described as a live-in girlfriend in Washington—alleged that Mills assaulted her, after calling police.. Mills said Raviani later recanted.. He noted that neither he nor the police record. in his telling. resulted in an arrest by the Metropolitan Police. and he said that all involved had already indicated there was no assault and no probable cause.

Mills’ account also points to the timing of prosecutors’ decisions after the matter drew attention.. He cited remarks by Ed Martin, the U.S.. attorney at the time. who said the Metropolitan Police considered charges only after press coverage had amplified the story and that prosecutors declined to pursue them.. In that version of events. Martin said there was no probable cause identified “the night” before. and that the later shift reflected a “mop-up” effort after the story broke.

The congressman further addressed a separate incident involving Lindsey Langston, whom Mills described as living with him in Florida.. Langston told police that Mills threatened to release intimate images and videos, and she provided text messages to that effect.. A judge in October 2025 issued a restraining order forbidding online communications.

Mills said that order later expired and that no party has pursued further action.. He also said there were claims tied to a court-issued cyber injunction for 71 days. which he said had already ended in 2025.. He maintained that no criminal or civil penalties have been raised. and he said he has never been charged—adding that the only matter currently on his record is a speeding ticket.

As he defended himself on legal fronts, Mills also dismissed questions about fundraising and whether he profited from defense contracts.. He said the Federal Election Commission already conducted and closed an investigation.. Mills mocked the notion. saying the business he had before Congress was described as going bankrupt and that he was not involved in it during his time in office.

He also attempted to clarify the alleged contract at the center of that scrutiny. Mills said the contract being referenced involves the Federal Bureau of Prisons and described it as a legacy contract that dates back to 2018, when ALS—now Pacem Defense—was acquired.

Even with these denials and legal outcomes. Mills has remained a frequent figure in broader expulsion and disciplinary discussions on Capitol Hill.. In April, his name was often grouped with other lawmakers—among them Swalwell, Gonzales, and U.S.. Rep.. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick—who had faced federal indictment or resignation.. Mills argued that he has not been federally indicted and said he has not faced sexual misconduct allegations admitted or otherwise.

He also suggested that partisan dynamics play a role in why some members get targeted.. Mills said lawmakers often respond to disciplinary action by raising reciprocal measures when the other side acts first. resulting in some members being “lumped into” the same wave even when their situations differ.. In his view, being a higher-profile target made him easier to attack.

Political groups outside Congress have also weighed in.. Mills said the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee targeted him. but he argued that this happened before the most recent scandals emerged.. He linked that strategy, in part, to political geography, saying he represents a district that has shifted before.

Mills’ electoral background is part of his argument that his seat is not guaranteed to remain with Democrats. He flipped a district previously represented by Democratic U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy in 2022. Murphy had won office in 2016 after unseating Republican U.S. Rep. John Mica.

With the ethics probe ongoing and the political temperature high. Mills is trying to shift attention toward his work in office and what he characterizes as his record beyond controversy.. He highlighted efforts he says he led in constituent service and personal rescue missions involving Americans in multiple countries. arguing those actions represent a tangible form of public service.

Mills also described himself as a leading figure in Florida constituent services. saying his work on federal agencies has resulted in thousands of cases and that his efforts have surpassed a major milestone.. He also pointed to donations tied to his congressional salary and said his engagement on behalf of women and children is carried out through charities.

For Mills, the ethics investigation is now the central test.. He says he will continue to comply with the process and insists he wants investigators to remain professional and within proper legal boundaries.. Whether voters accept that argument may hinge on how the committee resolves its review—and on how quickly the political story moves on to something else.
