Kingston councillor Conny Glenn launches mayoral bid

Glenn is currently the chair of the city’s housing and homelessness committee and sits on the appeals committee, planning committee and the heritage properties committee, the last of which is natural fit given the district she represents. Glenn is on the board of Southeast Public Health and represents eastern Ontario at the Association of Local Public Health Agencies. Glenn is also a board member on the Canadian Federation of Municipalities. Although Glenn is nearing the end of only her first term on council, she said

her experience before being elected in 2022 account for a lot. Not that being a one-term councillor has been a drawback in Kingston municipal elections. Current mayor Bryan Paterson and his predecessor Mark Gerretsen were both elected to head council after one term as a city councillor. “The amount of life experience that I’m bringing to the table, I think, is huge,” she said. “Running a business, getting a profession regulated. I think that it matters in terms of being able to see the connections

and to come up with creative solutions and advocate for them.

  1. So she’s on like 8 committees but still only first term? Idk, Kingston always re-elects the same kinda people anyway. Housing and homelessness sounds good on paper though.

  2. Wait, I thought the mayor before was elected after two terms? But the article says both the current mayor and predecessor did one term as councillor… so I guess it’s not a problem then. Also why does being on a heritage properties committee matter for homelessness? Feels like they just give her random titles.

  3. Can’t help but laugh at “creative solutions” when it’s the same housing mess every year. She’s chairing the housing and homelessness committee but it still doesn’t seem solved. Plus, if she’s on those public health boards and city committees, that’s basically the whole system already. I’m not saying she’s bad, I’m just saying the connections part sounds like the same old insider game. Also Kingston’s race is always weird, like whoever starts talking about experience wins automatically.
