One of the most quarterback-friendly wide receivers of the last decade is on the move.

The Indianapolis Colts agreed to terms with 13-year veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen on a one-year deal worth up to $8.32 million, a person close to the situation told USA TODAY Sports’ Tyler Dragon. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to discuss the deal.

Allen’s decision to join the Colts reunites him with Colts head coach Shane Steichen, who previously served on the Chargers’ coaching staff from 2014-2020.

Few free agents this offseason have a résumé like Allen’s. Allen owns the Chargers franchise record in receiving yards.

Allen, who turned 33 years old on April 27, was originally drafted by the Chargers in the third round in 2013 and spent 11 seasons with the team before being traded to the Chicago Bears ahead of the 2024 season.

After just one season in Chicago, he entered free agency and eventually agreed to return to the Chargers in August of 2025.

During his tenure with the Chargers, Allen achieved six 1,000-yard seasons, including three consecutive seasons from 2017 to 2019 and earned six Pro Bowl selections. In his lone season in Chicago, Allen recorded 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games.

He posted similar numbers in 2025 with the Chargers while also setting the franchise’s all-time receptions mark previously held by Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Antonio Gates. His 81 receptions led the Chargers last season.

How Keenan Allen fits with Colts

Allen joins a Colts team in need of more reliable wide receivers, especially after Indy traded leading receiver Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason. Allen is set to join a receiving corps that has Alec Pierce, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Josh Downs. Pierce is expected to be the team’s No. 1 wide receiver, but he’s only had one season of over 45 catches and 1,000 receiving yards. Allen’s a little past his prime, but he’s had over 60 catches in 12 of his 13 NFL seasons. He’s a savvy route runner, knows how to find open areas and keeps the chains moving on third downs. He’ll also add veteran leadership to the locker room.
