Coast Guard’s Eagle sails into Pensacola for free tours

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle arrives in Pensacola this weekend for free public tours at Plaza De Luna, running Saturday and Sunday with extended hours through next Monday.

Pensacola is getting a rare chance to step aboard a piece of living maritime history.

The United States Coast Guard Cutter Eagle — America’s premier historic tall ship — will visit Downtown Pensacola this weekend. The public can tour the vessel free of charge at Plaza De Luna.

The Eagle will be in town from Saturday through next Monday, giving residents and visitors multiple opportunities to climb aboard. The schedule is set: Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Next Monday, the ship will depart to continue its scheduled voyage.

The Cutter Eagle is a 295-foot barque known as “America’s Tall Ship.” It serves as a training vessel for future Coast Guard officers. and it also functions as an international ambassador for the U.S. Coast Guard around the world. During the stop. the Coast Guard says residents and visitors are invited aboard to explore the ship. meet crew members. and learn about its rich maritime history.

Built in 1936, the Eagle is the largest tall ship flying the Stars and Stripes. It’s also described as an enduring symbol of leadership, seamanship, and service — reasons the Coast Guard expects many people will want to see it up close, not just from the shore.

In the middle of a busy weekend, that access is the point: for a few days, the ship isn’t out on the water doing its work — it’s at Plaza De Luna, open to the public, ready for questions, conversations, and a closer look at how training and tradition share the same deck.
