After another rough outing, is Bryce Underwood’s status as Michigan starting QB under threat?
The voters in the US LBM Coaches Pol have weighed in following the extended weekend of games. The schedule produced few actual upsets, but the poll order was shaken up nonetheless.
Ohio State easily retains the No. 1 ranking. The Buckeyes received 50 first-place votes this week on the eve of their much-anticipated trip to Texas. The Longhorns for their part move up a spot to No. 3 with a single first-place nod, and they still trail SEC rival Georgia. The Bulldogs improved to No. 2, claiming seven No. 1 votes this week. Notre Dame and Indiana also move up a spot to round out the top five. The Fighting Irish received four first-place votes, while the defending national champion Hoosiers retained 11 firsts.
This brings us to Oregon, which slips from No. 2 to No. 6 after a close call against Boise State. The Ducks did keep one No. 1 vote but were demoted on enough ballots to take a hit in the rankings. Miami (Fla.) holds at No. 7.
LSU vaults into the top 10 at No. 8, a five-spot gain for the Bayou Bengals after their prime-time thrashing of Clemson. Texas A&M and Oklahoma round out the top 10, with Mississippi and Alabama also getting shuffled down a spot to No. 11 and 12 respectively.
Michigan remains in the poll at No. 24 after its controversial defeat of Western Michigan, but that is an eight-position drop from its preseason ranking. Clemson is the lone dropout, but there are two new teams in the poll as Florida and Virginia land in a tie for the 25th slot.
