Clippers lock in Hachimura with two-year $28M

The Los Angeles Clippers signed free-agent forward Rui Hachimura to a two-year, $28-million contract, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania. Hachimura joins the Clippers after spending the last three-and-a-half seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. Hachimura, 28, has established himself as a versatile player capable of playing either forward role who can thrive both in transition and as a floor-stretching perimeter threat. Last season, the Japanese-born seven-year NBA veteran averaged 11.5 points and 3.3 rebounds on 51.4% shooting in 68 regular-season contests. Hachimura took his game

to the next level as the Lakers dealt with injuries to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves in the playoffs. He averaged 17.5 points on 54.9% shooting from the field and a blistering 56.9% clip from deep across 10 postseason outings.

  1. Wait so he was with the Lakers for like 3 years and now he just… moves? Feels like the NBA trades are nonstop. Also $28M sounds crazy for 11 points.

  2. I’m confused why he left the Lakers like right after the playoffs stuff. Didn’t Luka and Reaves being injured basically make Rui the only option? so why would the Clippers sign him now? I guess they just needed a shooter.

  3. I don’t get why they paid him when the Lakers were literally the ones dealing with injuries to Doncic and Reaves, not him lol. Like this article makes it sound like he stepped up because of their injuries, but that’s not a skill right? idk. Still hope he hits threes though.

  4. So Hachimura averaged 56% from deep in the playoffs and then they’re like yeah let’s give him $28M. Seems like ESPN math because 56.9% is crazy but it was only 10 games right? Also I thought he was more like a rebounder not a floor spacer but whatever.

  5. Two-year 28 million is like… okay sure, but Clippers always sign somebody and then they act shocked when it doesn’t fix everything. Like is he gonna replace what they lost? The part about 56.9% from deep in the playoffs got me though, that’s wild. I just hate how fast everyone switches teams now, man.

  6. The Lakers injury excuse was real but also Clippers are always stealing players and then it’s like surprise they don’t win. 2 years $28M sounds like Clippers are trying to buy chemistry instead of actually developing anyone. And it says he can play forward roles, okay but which forward when Kawhi’s healthy? because last I checked that rotation is a mess.
