Hillary Clinton waded into two of Donald Trump’s latest controversies on Tuesday with a damning question. “Why can’t Trump clean a pool, or throw a real 250th party?” the former secretary of state and first lady, who lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election, asked on X. “It’s not (just) incompetence. It’s also corruption,” she added, essentially boiling Trump’s fiascos down to those two words. To illustrate her point, Clinton shared photos appearing to show sparse crowds at the underwhelming Great American State Fair,
which has so far failed to live up to the president’s hype. She posted text from consumer advocacy organization Public Citizen highlighting the Trump administration’s awarding of $100 million+ in federal contracts and grants tied to America’s 250th anniversary celebrations to “a network of politicized entities under the control of Trump administration officials and political allies.” And, referring to the ongoing saga surrounding the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which has been plagued by algae following Trump’s multi-million-dollar renovation, Clinton shared a Wall Street Journal headline
that read, “The Company Cleaning Up the Reflecting Pool Says It Has ‘Nothing To Hide,’” along with the subheadline: “Greenwater Services got a no-bid contract and is partly owned by a twice-convicted felon who is a Trump friend.” Clinton’s post came just a day after Trump shared an apparently AI-generated image on Truth Social falsely depicting Clinton, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris wearing hats reading, “I Lost to Trump.” While the slogan applied to Clinton and Harris, Biden roundly and thoroughly defeated Trump in the
