City trucker sentenced to 13 years over cocaine haul

“The amount of the drug is enormous,” said Bhullar’s lawyer, Brennan Smart. “The consequences are significant but quite deserved. He’s aware that once he has served his sentence, he will be deported from Canada and he won’t be taking any steps to prevent that. His wife and daughters have already moved back to India.” Bhullar was a long-haul transport truck driver who was tracked by GPS as he travelled from Hamilton, through Fort Erie to New Jersey. The GPS and in-cab video operated by the
trucking firm showed Bhullar made another stop in New York where nine large boxes of cocaine were added to his load. Back in Brantford on Aug. 1 last year, as two men were working to help off-load the drugs late at night on Morrell Street, someone reported a possible break-and-enter to Brantford Police who showed up, scaring off those involved and locking down the trucking yard.
cocaine, truck driver, sentencing, GPS tracking, in-cab video, Brantford Police, Morrell Street, deportation, Hamilton, Fort Erie, New Jersey, New York, Brennan Smart, Bhullar
13 years seems low for that much coke tbh.
So they tracked him with GPS and cab video… but like how did they not catch it sooner? Wild. Also deported to Canada? or from Canada? I’m confused.
Isn’t it weird his lawyer said the consequences are deserved like yeah no kidding. The part about his wife and daughters already moved back to India is sad though. I don’t even know how they verified the boxes were cocaine vs like cargo or something, but the GPS did the heavy lifting I guess.
13 years seems kinda too low for that much coke.
Long-haul driver just loading “nine large boxes” in New York… sounds like someone in the system let it happen. GPS tracking doesn’t stop anything, it just proves later. If he’s gonna be deported anyway, why not just slap him and send him home immediately? Seems like Canada made an example but the whole route (Hamilton, Fort Erie, NJ) feels like it was basically mapped out already.
So they tracked him by GPS and that’s why he got caught? Seems like surveillance just does whatever it wants these days. Also wild that his wife/daughters already moved back to India… like damn.
Wait I thought Canada doesn’t do deportation like that, don’t they just… let you stay? If he knew he’d be deported after 13 years, wouldn’t he just not bother? Unless it was his first time or something. Nine boxes added in New York sounds like a setup.
“Quite deserved” is what the lawyer said but like, he just drove the truck right? GPS and in-cab video, okay, but I’m still wondering how those dudes even got close enough to add boxes without being seen. Morrell Street late at night… classic. Also why is it always the long-haul people, smh.
