Chelsea Gray passes Becky Hammon after clutch win

Chelsea Gray recorded 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists in the Las Vegas Aces’ 84-79 win over the Las Vegas Aces, with her last assist to Jackie Young bringing her past head coach Becky Hammon for the franchise’s all-time assist lead.

Chelsea Gray didn’t chase the moment early. She chased the win.

On Saturday afternoon. in a clutch 84-79 victory over the Las Vegas Aces. Gray finished with 12 points. six rebounds. and six assists. Her final assist—delivered to Jackie Young—ended up carrying a bigger weight than the scoreboard could show. It was the assist that passed her head coach, Becky Hammon, handing Gray the Aces’ all-time lead in assists.

After the game, Gray made it clear she didn’t experience the achievement like a solitary milestone. She framed it as something built by teammates, something earned through the rhythm of a roster that gives a point guard chances to create.

“It’s a testament to all the players that I’ve been able to play with. I’ve played with some great players, and I’m currently playing with great players. And so you need a little help from the players. So, I mean, I’m just blessed to be in the position that I am. Healthy, having fun doing it, and enjoying the moment.”.

Going into the matchup, Gray said she knew she was close to the accomplishment. But once the game started, the attention shifted where it always does in moments that actually matter—staying locked in on winning.

“I knew the other day, but when we went into the game, I forgot about it. Like, I didn’t think about it at all. So, I’m glad I didn’t know about it until after the game, really.”

Gray described the atmosphere as something closer to the postseason than a regular-game grind, and she explained that the edge in games like that comes down to execution on a few crucial possessions. The idea wasn’t glamorous; it was practical.

“The game was playoff-like atmosphere. Sometimes you got to win ugly. It’s going to come down to a grind if. once again. we have another game that feels like a playoff environment. and it’s going to come down to a few possessions. I’m glad we were able to execute. and I’m glad I have Jackie Young and A’ja Wilson on my team.”.

For Gray. the assist record didn’t arrive as a distraction—it arrived as the final detail in a game that felt tense. deliberate. and decided by moments. Once the assist found Jackie Young. the numbers did what they always do at the end of a season-long story: they turned the night into history. even if Gray kept her eyes on the next possession first.

  1. I swear these articles always say “clutch” like it’s the same thing every time. 84-79 isn’t even that close?? Congrats to her though.

  2. Wait I’m confused… it says Las Vegas Aces beat the Las Vegas Aces? like what? Either the headline wrong or the copy/paste messed up. But if she’s passing Becky Hammon in assists then that’s honestly kinda legendary.

  3. Jackie Young got the last assist and then Chelsea got the franchise record… okay but wasn’t the Aces whole thing like defense and hustle, not “playoff like” vibes? Also A’ja Wilson being on the team changes everything so I don’t know how much credit goes to the moment lol.
