Chase Sapphire Preferred adds perks, but Hyatt points shift

Chase Sapphire – Chase is bringing new earning rates and extra benefits to the Sapphire Preferred, including a one-year Apple TV subscription and credits for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or Nexus. But the welcome bonus is no longer the same for applicants after June 15—and tran

By the time you’re done planning flights. hotels. and a long weekend you can actually afford. credit-card math starts to feel personal. For new travelers weighing their first points strategy. the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is pitching a familiar promise—high rewards on everyday spending—now with a thicker layer of perks.

Chase is currently offering new Sapphire Preferred cardholders 100. 000 bonus points after spending $5. 000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. The offer is valued at up to $2,050 based on June 2026 valuations. The bonus comes with a welcome twist: the card is returning what’s described as the highest offer it has seen in its history.

That timing matters because rules are changing. New cardholders who apply on or after June 15 will no longer be eligible for the Sapphire Preferred’s 10% annual points bonus. Those who apply before June 15, or who are already cardholders, aren’t swept up in that particular cut.

The rest of the update reads like a push to make points easier to earn day to day. The Sapphire Preferred’s earning structure includes 5 points per dollar spent on all Chase Travel purchases. including flights. hotels. rental cars. vacation homes*. cruises. activities and tours. It also earns 5 points per dollar spent on Lyft through Sept. 30, 2027, and 5 points per dollar spent on eligible Peloton equipment and accessory purchases over $150 through Dec. 31, 2027.

Chase has also added fresh 3-point categories: gas and electric vehicle charging, and vacation homes booked with top brands. Dining and select streaming services each earn 3 points per dollar. Online groceries earn 3 points per dollar, excluding Target, Walmart and wholesale clubs. Everything else follows the existing logic—2 points per dollar on all other travel purchases and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases.

The vacation-home details are specific. Vacation home brands included in this category are Airbnb, Vrbo, Plum Guide, HomeAway, Homestay.com and Vacasa.

Then there’s the direct money value. The annual hotel statement credit has doubled from $50 to $100. It can be used for prepaid hotel stays booked through Chase Travel and is available each account anniversary year.

If your travel routine involves more than bookings—think airports, logistics, and convenience—there are more additions. New and current cardholders will receive a one-year complimentary Apple TV subscription when activated by Dec. 31. They’ll also get up to $120 in statement credits for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or Nexus every four years.

Chase is also leaning into everyday discounts: cardholders receive a complimentary DoorDash DashPass membership valued at $120 per year, plus a monthly $10 credit for eligible non-restaurant DoorDash purchases.

All of this sits alongside the familiar strength of the card’s flexible rewards system. Ultimate Rewards points can be transferred to multiple airline and hotel partners, including Air Canada Aeroplan and Air France-KLM Flying Blue, at a 1:1 ratio.

But there’s a hard boundary here for travelers who care about Hyatt redemptions. Chase is reducing the World of Hyatt transfer ratio. If you apply on or after June 15. transfers to World of Hyatt will occur at a 4:3 ratio instead of 1:1. meaning fewer Hyatt points for the same number of Ultimate Rewards points transferred. Existing cardholders and anyone who applied before June 15 can continue transferring at 1:1 until Oct. 1.

The card’s story. then. is a balancing act: richer perks and expanded earning categories on one side. and a late-June change that could alter how valuable Hyatt redemptions feel for future applicants. Still. the bottom-line case for many travelers remains that Ultimate Rewards points continue to be highly valuable through Chase’s airline and hotel partners—potentially unlocking business-class tickets or resort stays for far less than cash equivalents.

With its unchanged $95 annual fee and a welcome bonus matching the highest offer described in the card’s history—100. 000 points after $5. 000 in spending in the first three months—Chase is clearly trying to win over both first-time point collectors and longtime churners. For anyone watching the calendar. the dates are the whole plot: June 15 decides the welcome bonus eligibility change and the Hyatt transfer ratio shift.

  1. I don’t even trust “points math” anymore. Every time I see “valued at up to $2,050” it’s like… where? I feel like the Hyatt part is gonna get devalued anyway.

  2. Wait, does the Apple TV subscription mean they pay you back in TV? Like free streaming for a year? Also June 15 sounds random, like they’re just trying to trick people into applying at the worst time.

  3. Hyatt points shift… which points though? I swear these cards always change the rules right when you finally start using them. Global Entry credits I get, but TSA PreCheck is like automatic for some people anyway, so who’s that really helping? I’m just gonna stick with cash back because this whole 5 points per dollar thing makes my head hurt.
