Chappell Roan Calls Comment Sections “Very Disheartening”

Chappell Roan said reading the comment section can be “very disheartening,” explaining that she deletes social media apps when the discourse gets overwhelming and leans on her values instead.

Chappell Roan admitted that the hardest part of being online can be as simple as scrolling into the comment section.

On the Monday (June 1) episode of P&G and iHeartRadio’s Elton John Impact Awards podcast, the 28-year-old Grammy-winning “Good Luck Babe!” singer opened up about the emotional toll that social media can take—and why she doesn’t keep the apps on her phone.

“It’s very disheartening sometimes to really go into the comment section,” Roan said. She described learning to step away when online discourse turns heavy, even if it means cutting off the noise before it can reach her.

“I just delete it when it becomes too much and keep it moving,” she shared. For Roan, the point of engaging with online negativity doesn’t last. She said nothing she sees online will change the real-world actions she cares about. including “Elton [John] and I [from] donating money. donating time. writing about things that matter to us.”.

Roan also said public figures face a constant struggle to separate what people say online from what they personally value. “It’s such a difficult world to navigate that personally. if I just delete it and keep it moving. I kind of make it out of that hurricane. ” she explained. “But that’s hard for a lot of artists because. if you rely on social media to fuel your momentum. that can be really disheartening and it can feel very hopeless.”.

She acknowledged that social platforms can be a major career engine, but she drew a clear line between what she can do and what many other artists can’t. “I’m in a very privileged position where I can be like, ‘I’m not gonna be on this and I’ll be fine.’ But not everyone is like that.”

The remarks land with additional attention on Roan’s name, after soccer player Jorginho Frello released a statement absolving Chappell of any wrongdoing in the alleged situation regarding his 11-year-old daughter at Lollapalooza.
