CBS is set to air Great American Block Party 250 live from the Washington Monument on July 4 from 8–11 p.m. ET, with performances spanning America250 concerts in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and more—ending with what CBS calls the largest fireworks show in histo

For a Fourth of July celebration that aims to feel less like a broadcast and more like a front-row seat, CBS is turning the spotlight to the Washington Monument.

CBS’ three-hour Great American Block Party 250 special will take place live from Washington, D.C. on Saturday night, July 4, running from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET. The show will go coast-to-coast, weaving together performances connected to America250 concerts happening around the country.

Those performances include the America250 Benefit Show in Los Angeles and the One Philly: Unity Concert for America event in Philadelphia. CBS says the special will conclude with “the largest fireworks show in history in the skies over the nation’s capital.”

Tony Dokoupil—CBS Evening News anchor—and Entertainment Tonight co-host Nischelle Turner will serve as hosts, airing live from Washington, D.C. Together, they’ll guide viewers through a lineup built on recognizable names from multiple stops across the U.S.

The performer list includes Queen Latifah from L.A.’s America250 Benefit, The Roots and Jill Scott from Philly’s Unity Concert, Zac Brown Band in Atlanta, Jon Batiste in Montclair, N.J., Goo Goo Dolls in Irvine, C.A., and The War and Treaty in Nashville.

Viewers looking for more July 4 options won’t be short on choices either. The special airing on ABC and the event airing on NBC are also set to roll out their own lineups as all networks celebrate the holiday.

  1. Why is it always a “special” with fireworks now, like we can’t just do normal fireworks anymore. I’m confused though— is this on CBS or is it at the monument like in person?

  2. So this is basically a concert on TV but they’re saying it’s from the Washington Monument and then like across the country too? I saw Queen Latifah trending so I assumed she was gonna be the only one lol. Also “largest fireworks show in history” sounds like marketing fluff, but I’ll probably still watch for background noise.

  3. I don’t get it, July 4th is already busy and now CBS is gonna take over the whole night with Tony Dokoupil and that other host. Isn’t the Washington Monument like not even safe for crowds? And they keep mentioning America250 like that’s the real reason for fireworks… feels kinda political to me, not gonna lie.
