The pitch is simple: the plan costs $40 per month, includes unlimited 5G data, and runs on AT&T’s 5G network. Cash App’s announcement did not spell out specific data speeds or mention any throttling limitations.
For the company behind the wrapper, the setup matters. The MVNO is being facilitated by connectivity middleman Gigs, which has partnered with other brands—Walmart and Klarna among them—to launch their own branded mobile plans.
But $40 a month is also where the tension shows up. Compared with other prepaid MVNO options, the price doesn’t immediately look competitive. Visible offers plans starting at $25. and Mint Mobile’s promotional pricing can bring fees down to as low as $10 per month. Cash App’s edge. then. is less about undercutting rates and more about convenience: if you already live in the app. getting wireless service through something familiar may feel worth the extra cost.
The rollout is also limited at first. Cash App Mobile is starting now for “select users,” with Cash App saying it should be broadly available later this year, and broader availability planned in the coming months.
